Jeffersontown is a small town in Marshall County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,026 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. Jeffersontown has been home to a powder magazine and rifle range since 1792. The first shooting protection history in Jeffersontown was organized by Captain James Fenton on April 25, 1824. Captain Fenton organized the first shooting society in America and his club met at the old fort on Main Street. Jefferson County had several forts during the American Revolution as well as an Arsenal built by Colonel James Wilkinson in 1794 to store firearms and ammunition which served as a base of operations for Revolutionary War activity throughout northeastern Kentucky. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson's army passed through Jefferson County on their way from Nashville to Cairo, Illinois and stopped at Fort DONelson near present day Jeffersonton for supplies before continuing their march westward. During this time period there were numerous skirmishes and battles that took place around here with militia troops from neighboring counties such as Campbellsville, Donelson, Pike's Valley etc., engaging with British forces on various occasions Jefferson County was also known for its cattle pastures which were highly important during this time frame due to the lack of land elsewhere in Kentucky suitable for farming so large numbers of these animals roamed free acrossstate lines freely producing valuable milk while providing meat content that helped support many families during difficult times In 1836 Major General Elijah Hill's force arrived in Louisville after routinga Patriot force under Colonel John Brown at Harrodsburg on October 12th and began construction of what would becomeFort Donelson just outside of town The following year Confederate General Robert Ewell invaded Kentucky from Tennessee via Unionheldimble Creek Bridge over that creek just east of town leading upriver to Lexington where he attackedGeneral Ulysses S Grant's main army entrenched along Lookout Mountain southeast of town about two miles southwest of junction between Lookout Mountain Road (now US 521)and State Route 127 Ewell eventually withdrew his forces back upstream into Tennessee after losing some 1,500 men killed or wounded including 300 officers including commandant Richard Hensley who was captured along with most ofhis unit when they crossed bridges over Duck River near present day downtown Jeffersonton

Jeffersontown is a small town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 5,033 at the 2010 census. Jeffersontown is the county seat of Hardin County and home to the Jeffersontown National Historical Park. The first Europeans to visit what is now Hardin County were French Jesuit missionaries in 1763. They named their new settlement after Saint James Parish in London, England. In 1814, the United States acquired Louisiana and organized it into Hardin County as part of that state's eastward expansion. In 1827, Congress created a new eastern border for Hardin County that ran along the Ohio River near present-day Louisville. The name "Jeffersontown" was chosen to represent all ofHardin County west of this line; it was not intended to be permanent and changed only occasionally until its current use dates back to 1868. The first resident in Jeffersontown were Nicholas Brown and his family who moved there from Carthage on October 12th, 1828 from Jackson Township (now New Albany). There were several other families that followed over time including: John Fenton (1829-1904), Isaac Hargrave (1830-1915), George Washington Smith (1832-1911), Jno Crouch (baptized October 6th 1830), John Couch (baptized November 3rd 1830) and Abraham Couch (born December 10th 1830). Many people coming through Jeffersonville during this time either stopped or passed through on their way southbound on I-65 which crossed over the river just outside today's town limits; they would then turn around and go back north again when they got close enough toJeffersonville proper. It wasn't until July 1st 1870 that hard coal mining began operation here with Andrew Stephenson working out of a mine located about two miles northeast of where Jeffersontown now stands. Itanium ore was being mined nearby at Paintsville but no one ever came as far as Jeffersonton because transportation didn't exist for such an immense amount of material at that time! Coal production peaked around 1900 however by 1910 more than half of all coal mined in Kentucky had been produced here! Today much of what used to be called “coal country” outside Louisville are actually fields covered with corn or soybean crops! Mining continued until 1926 when work stopped due to competition from oil production interests in Texas City; operations shifted elsewhere soon afterward . After years of decline various mines closed up throughout the 1960s/1970s while other businesses flourished like grocery stores, auto parts stores etc., filling up many storefronts across town once again making it an active community once again!
