Jeffersontown is a town located in Clay County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,716 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Clay County. Jeffersontown is named after General Andrew Jackson's home township in North Carolina. The first settlers in what became Jeffersontown were three men from Virginia who arrived in 1785 and founded the town on land that had been part of East Tennessee. They named their settlement for General Andrew Jackson, who had just won his first victory against Native American forces at New Orleans the year before. The early farmers near present-day Jeffersontown grew corn, wheat and rye crops; raised livestock; and manufactured goods such as saddles and wagon wheels. In 1814, surveyors from Kentucky surveyed this area and found that it would be an ideal place to build a courthouse and jail. The first courthouse was built in 1816 on Main Street between Third Street and Fourth Street. The square building cost $1,000 to build and served as the court house until it burned down in 1836. A new courthouse was built on First Avenue between Second Street and Third Street following a design by architect James McMillan in 1840–1841. This structure served as the court house until it also burned down in 1851. A schoolhouse was erected about 1800 on what is now Depot Road between Third Street (then called Academy Road) and Fourth Streets for use by local children living near by or those attending nearby schools. A library was also established about this time with books donated by local citizens or bought at auction or through subscription from members of the public interested in learning about Jeffersonville history outside of their homes – something that still occurs today! The post office opened its doors on October 3rd, 1830 (thanks to Mrs Jane Prentiss), serving as an important link among all of these early community institutions since no mail could be transported directly to each address without passing through one or more intermediate stops along the way! As people started arriving into Jeffersontown over time they began purchasing more acreage within its borders which then led to development around churches, stores, residences, businesses etcetera which can still be seen today including almost every major city center location with some minor deviations due to distance (eastern Lexington being an exception).

Jeffersontown is an unincorporated community in Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States. It lies near the border of Jefferson and Trimble counties. The population was 669 at the 2000 census. Jeffersontown is named after Colonel Archibald Jefferys, a Revolutionary War general. The first settlers in what is now Jeffersontown were three men from North Carolina: James Robertson, John Harned and James Auld. They arrived in 1792 and built a cabin on the riverbank just east of present-day Jeffersontown. In 1802 they erected a small log store (now known as the Robertson House), which served as their center of trade until about 1830. A post office called Jeffersontown was established in 1827, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1905. Jefferson County was organized on December 1, 1829, under the provisions of the Kentucky Constitution of 1819. The first county courthouse was built at what is now Park View Cemetery in 1840; it burned down in1864. The current courthouse building was completed in 1907 and replaced an earlier structure that had been destroyed by fire two years earlier. The town of Jeffersontown began to grow rapidly following its incorporation as a town on December 15, 1840; by 1850 it had over 200 residents! Growth continued through the early 19th century; by 1860 there were 2200 people living within its boundaries! By 1890 there were over 4000 people residing within its limits! In 1898 one of America's first electric streetcars ran along Main Street between Park View Cemetery and Jeffersontown Pioneer Museum—a signal event that initiated rapid growth throughout much of downtownJeffersontown! In 1905 all but 10% of the male population over age 20 died from tuberculosis; this led to drastic reductions in business activity throughout most downtownJeffersontown during World War I However optimism returned for many years thereafter as economic development resumed with widespread job creation ensuing postwar eras Of particular note are numerous civic organizations—-the Downtown Development Corporation (founded 1934), American Legion Post #2 (founded 1921), Bluegrass 400 Club/Golf Course Association (founded 1951), etc.—that have helped make today's downtownJeffersontown one of the most vibrant communities anywhere
