Jeffersontown is a city located in the state of Kentucky, United States. It was founded on April 20, 1827 by General James Jefferys and his brother John Jefferys. The city is named after their father, Colonel William P. Jefferys. The first gunsmith in the town was David Brownell, who created the first breech loading rifle in 1828. In 1875, patent #539,024 was granted to Oliver Winchester for the creation of a self-loading rifle that could be fired automatically from a shoulder stock. This weapon would later become known as the Winchester Model 1889 Rifle. On October 5th of that year, Jeffreytown became an incorporated town under the laws of Kentucky. On November 3rd 1902, it passed a resolution declaring itself an open-air shopping mall with a five million dollar budget which would eventually become home to several thousand shoppers each day. Jeffersontown is a small town in western Kentucky, located on the Cumberland River. The population was 2,619 at the 2000 census. Jeffersontown is one of the smallest towns in Kentucky and it has a population density of only 12 people per square mile. Jeffersontown is also one of the most rural communities in Kentucky with no more than 10 businesses downtown. The first settler to arrive in what is now Jeffersontown was David Humphreys, who built a log cabin on an upland near where the community sits today. By 1828, Humphreys’ cabin had been replaced by a larger structure which served as both home and school for local children. In 1848, Welshman Jno. Davies started to build a grist mill on the river bottom just east of where Jeffersontown now stands. The mill ran until 1862 when it caught fire and burned down; however, this event did not stop Davies from building another gristmill close to his new mill site some time later. Shortly after becoming established as a town, Jeffersontown began to grow through commerce and industry; two early industries were cattle raising and horticulture/flower growing. A flour factory was built in 1867 by John Hogg (a pioneer farmer who also founded Grafton) and operated until 1914; it manufactured cornmeal, pasta sauce, cracker crumbs and other items needed for many American households at that time. In addition to its flour production activities, the factory also produced soap products (including shampoo), candy bars and cigarettes using an open-sided oven that caused extensive damage while still running during World War I due to lack of safety standards then prevailing at that time! In 1915-16, ice cream manufacturing commenced operations by arriving from Illinois via trainload into downtown Jeffersontony – making this perhaps one of the earliest commercial enterprises associated with present day Jeffersontown! This business continued until 1978 when it closed due to economic difficulties unique enough for it alone to be mentioned here but not unique enough for mention elsewhere! In 1941-42 saw construction begin on what would become known as “the world’s largest cotton gin” –Built by J P Morgan & Sons under contract from United States Cotton Corporation! This plant would continue operations until 1984 when it closed due primarily to overpopulation within its confines – although some finished garments still remain extant thanks partly thereto! Later years have seen significant redevelopment taking place withinJefferson County including portions of downtownJefferson City along with residential areas northward towards Interstate 270/Upper Big Sandy Creek Valley Road corridor……………………………………………………………. Today little remains standing outside of historic buildings inside Downtown Jefferson City such that there are few clues remaining as to how things once looked or functioned prior thereto…………………..
