Jeffersontown is a small town in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. It was founded in 1821 by John Jeffers and his wife Susannah. The town became a railway junction in 1854. In 1870, the Louisville and Nashville Railroad built a tunnel under Jeffersontown Creek, which increased trade in the town. The first papermill was built in 1881; it closed in 1943. In 1951, Jeffersontown became an incorporated city. In 1967, the U.S. Department of Agriculture designated Jeffersontown as a level crossing for the Appalachian Regional Commission's "Blue Ridge Parkway". The railroad still uses part of its track near the downtown area to freight trains carrying agricultural products to Louisville and other points south).
