Jeffersontown is a small town in Hancock County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,911 at the 2010 census. It is located on the banks of the Ohio River. Jeffersontown was founded by William Jeffers and his brother John in 1800. The first settlers were farmers who grew corn, beans, wheat and potatoes. By 1825, large amounts of coal had been discovered in Jeffersontown and a few families began to mine it. The community soon became prosperous thanks to its heavy industry and its location on the river which made it easy to get goods across the country. In 1860, Jeffersontown became an incorporated town with a post office and two churches. In 1871, an engine company was formed in Jeffersontown and it quickly became one of the most important businesses in town. The company prospered until 1907 when it merged with another engine company to form George Wagon & Engine Company. In 1915, the George Wagon Company merged again with another companies to become JW Railroad Corporation which continued to be one of the most important transportation businesses in town until 1978 when it merged with CSX Transportation Corporation. Jeffersontown has seen many changes over its history but has always been a small community that supported its residents through their economy and education properties such as schools and churches which continue to serve as landmarks today.

Jeffersontown is a small town in Bourbon County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 3,853 at the 2000 census. Jeffersontown is located on the border of Jefferson County and Scott County. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. The first white person to live in Jeffersontown was Captain George Rogers Clark who arrived in 1785 with his family from Virginia. In 1815, James Kenedy organized a group of farmers and loggers to purchase land east of the Mississippi River from the Cherokee Nation. They named their new settlement "Jeffersontown", after President James Kenedy's father-in-law, Thomas Jefferson. The town became an agricultural center due to its fertile soil and good water supply. By 1830, Jeffersontown had a general store, blacksmith shop, schoolhouse and Baptist church. In 1841, when counties were created in Kentucky, Jeffersontown became part of Scott County. With its location on the frontier between two powerful counties (Bourbon and Jefferson), it slowly lost population until it reached its present size by 1870; by then it had one store (owned by Wm Higginson) and one post office (opened in 1865). Jeffersontown experienced some significant growth during World War II as many displaced Americans made their way back home through nearby Scott or Jefferson Counties. The war brought about increased manufacturing activity as well as increased traffic on Main Street which caused problems for both businesses and residents alike; but by 1945 things had improved significantly with more stores opening up along Main Street as well as better access to health care and other services that had been unavailable elsewhere within the town limits since before the war began. After World War II ended there was further growth thanks to technological advancements such as television production plants set up throughout southern Kentucky during this time period which helped spur development around town including new housing developments such as Lakeside Estates which still stands today despite numerous updates over time including seismic retrofitting in 2006; also throughout this time period several churches were built including First Baptist Church which still stands today next door to Lakewood Elementary School; later additions include Stonington Place subdivision developed in 1984 adjacent to Covington High School now known as Cardinal Newman Catholic High School The current demographic makeup of Jeffersontown reflects changes seen throughout much of southern Kentucky over recent decades: Since 1990 many people have come from larger cities or eastern Kentucky where jobs have opened up following deregulation of labor markets following 9/11/2001 while others have chosen to stay rural followingractor technology improvements especially those related to corn planting techniques etc.; meanwhile vibrant small towns like Jeffersontown are slowly dying out due largelyto lack of investment & development outside of larger cities where people are looking for more opportunities than what they find here
Jeffersontown was founded in 1827 by Colonel John Jeffers. The town grew quickly, and by 1830 it had a population of 1,200 people. By 1840, the population had increased to 3,000 people. In 1851, the town voted to secede from Kentucky and become an independent state. However, the secession attempt was unsuccessful and Jeffersontown continued to exist as a separate municipality until 1974.
