Jeffersontown, Kentucky has a rich history with guns. The town was founded in 1795 by settlers from Virginia. The first gun shop in Jeffersontown was established in 1812. It was the first place to sell guns on the market in Kentucky. After the Civil War, Jeffersontown became a center for firearms sales and training. In 1865, a rifle range was opened in the town and continued to be used until 1972. In 1902, an ammunition store and post office were also built in Jeffersontown.
Jeffersontown is a small town located in western Kentucky, about 20 miles west of the state capital, Frankfort. The population was 1,569 at the 2000 census. Jeffersontown is one of eight towns in eastern Kentucky that are part of the Louisville Metro Council and are served by the Jeffersontown Township School District. The community takes its name from James Jefferis (1768-1826), an early settler who platted what is now Jeffersontown on land he had acquired in 1798 from the Shawnee tribe. In 1816, Lieut.-Colonel John Brown built a farm here and named it Brownstown after himself. In 1827, Colonel John Fenton purchased 2,000 acres of acreage along the Cumberland River from James Jefferis for $22 per acre. The community became formally known as Jeffersontown after General Andrew Jackson halted his march through eastern Kentucky on July 3, 1825, at this site. Jeffersontown was incorporated as a town in 1902. It has since growth to over 1,500 residents and businesses including several hospitals and schools. It remains an agricultural center with cattle ranching being a major industry.

Jeffersontown is a town in Brown County, Kentucky, United States. It was founded in 1813 by James Jeffers and wife Margaret. The population was 1,402 at the 2010 census. The first post office in Jeffersontown was established on July 3, 1814, with Wm. Green as the first official receiver. In 1830, the town became known as "Dickstown" because many of the early settlers were from Dickinson County near Philadelphia. A school District No. 2 was organized in 1922 and named for Judge Rufus Oliphant who had served as its first president. The community soon developed into a small farming center with several stores and a few houses until World War II when it became an important bomber station providing support to Allied forces during the war effort. In 1951, Dickstown voters approved annexation of neighboring Caldwell County and since then it has grown rapidly into one of the most populous communities in Brown County with over 11,000 residents today (2006 estimate). One of the primary attractions for residents is its large shopping district which includes several high-end retailers such as Macy's Department Store and Sears Roebuck & Co., along with local restaurants including Joe's Pizza Place and Hardee's hamburger restaurant; all within walking distance of each other or less than a mile away on busy streets like Broadway Avenue or Patterson Street. Additionally there are plenty of parks and open spaces located throughout downtown which make Jeffersontown an attractive place to live despite some limited public transportation options nearby (e.g., buses run only between Caldwell City Center and downtown).

However, due to a lack of industry and an overpopulation of the town,Jeffersontown had a very low level of development until World War II when new businesses began to arrive in the area. After World War II, new construction took place in Jeffersontown as industries became more prevalent in the region. In recent years, however, there has been a decrease in business activity and population because of changes within the social fabric of central Kentucky.
