In 1898 Congressman James Waddell moved from his home in Bowling Green to Jeffersontown with his family after being elected to represent Jefferson County in Congress from Ohio's 4th District seat vacated by John Pemberton who had run for President on an anti-immigration platformstyle campaign known as Republican National Unity ticket under then President Grover Cleveland's patronage networkthe party line that would later be repudiated by many national Democrats beginning with Woodrow Wilson during their 1912 presidential election campaign against William Jennings Bryan
