Jeffersontown, Kentucky is a small town located in Daviess County that has been around since the early 1800s. The town was named after General Jeffersons who fought in the American Revolution. The first gunsmith in Jeffersontown was James Smith and his son John. In 1827, Daniel Boone living in nearby Lexington started working on guns in Jeffersontown. By 1830, there were six gunsmiths working in Jeffersontown and by 1836, there were twenty-six. In 1841, Senator James Kautz of Louisville bought land at the junction of Old Hickory and State roads for $500 for a gun factory. The new factory was called the Louisville Arms Company and it produced rifles, shotguns and pistols. By 1847, there were ninety-four gunsmiths working at the Louisville Arms Company. In 1854, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued an executive order that prohibited any person from owning more than five handguns per year without a permit from the Department of Justice. This order became known as the New Deal and it helped to spur growth at the Louisville Arms Company which now employed over 1,000 people including clerks, mechanics and inspectors responsible for ensuring that all firearms were kept clean andsafely stored. During World War II, production at the company shifted to making ammunition instead of firearms but during peacetime production continued until 1966 when it merged with other companies to form Brownells Incorporated (BWI). Today, Jeffersontown's primary industry is retail sales of firearm products but its history remains important to some residents because it played a role in their communityhoods – many of whom are still active members of Gun Owners Clubs or NRA chapters today.

Jeffersontown was founded in 1820 by James Jeffries and his family. It became a town on November 15, 1827 when it was organized as a result of the Act of Union between Kentucky and Virginia. After the Civil War, Jeffersontown declined due to lack of industry and development. However, it has seen significant growth since 2000 as a result of its proximity to Louisville and other industries. The current mayor is Donnie Witherspoon. The first settler in what would become Jeffersontown was James Jeffries who traveled from near Lexington to purchase land in what is now Pike County from David Henderson for $5 per acre (2½ acres). In 1820 JamesJeffries erected a log cabin on this site which he named "Jefferiesville." He later moved his family to this location and started an agricultural enterprise that continued until after the war when he sold out to Major General George Rogers Clark for $10 per acre (4 acres). This marked the beginning of heavy commercial development in present-day Jeffersontown with large tracts of land being offered for sale throughout much of central Kentucky including parts now within Louisville city limits. In 1830 John Hetherington arrived from England with his wife Sarah and their two children John and Susannah Hetherington (Edwards) married into oneof Clark's plantations east of Pulaski County - Green Gables Plantation west side main creek stream...In 1834 JohnHetherington built & shared run home w/ neighbor James Ramsey then moved back 3 yrs later wid 2 daughters Mary Ann & Anna Ramsey...Mary Ann Hetherington left her father’s farmstead about 1840 &married Eli Manning Surveyor surveyor from Paducah Ky....Anna Ramsey married Marshall Akins about 1850 &moved away also around 1850 but returned about 1870-1880 when there were 5 families living here total...about 1840 Julia Lane Hetherington bacame daughter-in-lawwid Anna Ramsey
