Jeffersontown is a town in Fayette County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. The original Jeffersontown was located on the current site of downtown Louisville. The land that now makes up Jeffersontown was first settled by David Jefferis in 1785. In 1806, Daniel Boone crossed the Little Tennessee River and found an abandoned trading post called "Jeffery's Bluff." This led to what is now known asJeffersontown because Reverend James Jefferis built his home there in 1811-12. David Jefferis' son-in-lawand namesake, Senator John Capps (1802-1875), also helped make Jeffersontown a reality by donating land for a courthouse and school district. The town began receiving settlers in earnest during the early 19th century with many coming from Kentucky and neighboring states looking for a new home after arriving during the American Civil War. initial growth slowed as railroads arrived and commerce moved to larger cities but resumed thereafter with growth resulting primarily from farming until World War II when industry took over much of local economic activity which has continued to this day. In 1953, Mayor Harry Harrison decided that downtown Louisville should be redesigned based on principles of functionalism which aimed to improve public access through dramatic reductions in scale while preserving character keyed around open spaces including Market Square and Procession Alley which still serve as important local transportation corridors today

James Jeffers founded Jefferstown around 1784 and named it after his father-in-law Benjamin Franklin Jefferson II. By 1800, James had developed over 1 million acres (500 ha) of land in what is now eastern Kentucky coalmining counties including Snyder and Morehead Counties and had become one of Appalachia's wealthiest men. He leased or sold 640 parcels totaling 2 males per acre (100 m2) between 1785-1815 for £10 an acre (467 sq ft). This early lease system allowed small farmers much security for their crops because they could not be taken away by wealthy investors easily as they were then able to do with other types of property such as forests or mineral rights that would later be developed into towns like Louisville or Nashville. Benjamin Franklin Jefferson II died unmarried at age 54 on October 14, 1800 leaving his fortune undistributed but did leave many slaves who worked on his farms until 1865 when slavery was abolished throughout all United States through General Order No 1066
