The Jeffersontown Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in 1876. It was the first rifle club west of the Allegheny Mountains. The club disbanded in 1887, but it reformed in 1914. The club has been inactive since then.
Jeffersontown, Kentucky is a small town located in Campbell County, Kentucky. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. Jeffersontown is an unincorporated community and it has not been incorporated into any county. It is largely rural with a few light industrial businesses located near the intersection of US-6 and KY-2 highways. The first European settlers in what is now Jeffersontown were farmers who came from Scotland. They started out farmsteads about four miles east of present day Jeffersontown on the banks of the Dan River. The area that became Jeffersontown was called Haughton’s Ferry Landing because a ferry crossing existed there during early 1800s when the river was navigable only by boat. In 1815, John Kennedy, Sr., son of President John F Kennedy, purchased land south of present day Jeffersontown on which he built a log cabin and named it "Jefferson". A post office called Jefferson was established in 1819, and remained in operation until 1901. In 1834, James Blythe founded "Blythe's Mill", which became one of the most important textile mills in Appalachia. At its peak production capacity, "Blythe's Mill" employed up to 100 workers per hour; however its plant burned down in 1865 due to an accident caused by employees trying to make use of unsafe tools. In 1898–99, local entrepreneur routesheller Waddell bought "BlyTHEUSEN'S mill" from James Blythe for $1 million dollars; this made Waddell one of America's richest men at that time. Jefferson Township was organized as part of Campbell County on December 12, 1868; Jeffersontown residents voting on January 3rd approved incorporation as a town under the name “Jefferson’stown” (later changed to “Jefferson Township”). The new town had a population size of just over 300 inhabitants when it formally became operational on February 5th 1870 through issuance of certificates thereof by Campbell County Board Chairman Ira Rheaemer…………………………………………………………….. .The first postmaster general for Jefferson township was Sylvester Paine……………………………………….. . On September 3rd 1907 voters approved establishment of school districts within Jefferson township including: east side (northwest corner), west side (southwest corner), north side (northwest corner), and center (southwestern corner)……………………………………….. On November 25th 1912 voters passed an ordinance providing for electric lights throughout the town after surveys showed high demand for such service………………………………………. On May 14th 1915 votersapproved erection OF THE FIRST SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP – THIS SCHOOL WAS ESTABLISHED AS A PUBLIC KINDERGARTEN FOR CHILDREN WITHIN THE AREA OF NORTHWEST ENDFIELD ROAD AND JOHNSTON AVENUE NEAR SOUTH DUNKLIN STREET

Jeffersontown is a small town in Breathitt County, Kentucky, United States. It was founded by Captain Jefferys and his family in 1814. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. The townsite of Jeffersontown was first donated by Captain John Jefferys to the village of Danville for use as a military barracks during the American Revolution. The village moved to its present location on the east side of the Cumberland River in 1819. A post office was established at Jeffersontown in 1820, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1897. In 1861, Colonel James Hinton Post purchased all of present-day Breathitt County from Governor William Roanoke for $10,000. Jeffersontown experienced heavy fighting during World War II when Confederate forces attacked and burned many homes and businesses. The town's only injury occurred when a German sniper hit General George Patton with an automatic rifle while he slept outside his home on April 6, 1945. In 1951, President Harry S Truman dedicated the new Memorial Bridge over the Cumberland River at Jeffersontown for Operation Sparkman which conducted air strikes against Japanese targets near Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II. On July 5th of that year, Coca-Cola founder Muhtar Kent delivered a speech at Jefferson Elementary School which became nationally known after being featured on Good Morning America television program that day. The town has undergone several name changes throughout its history including: Sullivantown (1824), Raystown (1827), Old Raystown (1829), New Raystown (1830), Hill Station (1831), Westraytown (1832), Southraystown (1833), Northraystown (1834). Finally, it took its current name -Jeffersontown - prior to becoming part of Breathitt County effective January 1st 1974
Jeffersontown was founded in 1785 by James Jeffers and his wife, Eliza. It became a post office in 1806 and an incorporated town in 1827. The town had a population of 2,500 in 1870 and 5,000 in 1900. In 1907, the United States Post Office Department merged with the Kentucky State Post Office to create the present-day USPS.
