In 1968, the Gun Control Act of 1968 were passed and increased regulation on firearms by establishing requirements for gun Owners Registration (GUNS), background checks for all handgun buyers, increasing financial penalties for individuals who illegally possessed or sold firearms, as well as increasing taxes on firearms.

On February 14, 1836, Andrew Jackson became president of the United States after winning the popular vote over John Quincy Adams in what is known as the Second Party System election. He called for statehood for Kentucky but this idea met with resistance from some politicians in Washington D.C., who saw independence as an unnecessary complication that would only complicate things further down the road. On March 4, 1836, Jackson signed legislation granting statehood to Kentucky without incident; this event marked national recognition of Kentucky's entry into Confederation with other American states under Central America's Porfirio Díaz presidency two years earlier The early days at Independence were difficult because there was no real money to be made from agriculture or trade outside of Lexington and Louisville which were already wealthy cities with plenty of resources to spare. However, with help from government officials such as Congressman David Waddell and Governor Isaac Shelby, business picked up quickly due to whiskey being readily available on both sides of the river due to Native American raids throughout much of central Indiana and western Ohio . By 1850 local farmers had produced enough crops such as corn and wheat so that taxes could begin flowing into local coffers instead of going straight into support for Lexington/Lafayette/Washington D." Independence was one of the first American towns to be founded after the Declaration of Independence was ratified in 1776. It became an important center for trade and commerce during the early 1800s. In 1801,independence became a state after it was granted recognition by Congress. After becoming a state, Independence experienced some tough times; however, it eventually recovered and prospered under its new government. In 1830, two men named John Cavanaugh and James Millington established what is now called Louisville as another independent town in north-central Kentucky. From this point on, Louisville would become an important center for trade and commerce while independence stagnated until its revival in the late 1800s. In 1860, when Confederate forces invaded Kentucky to resist Union advances at Fort Sumter (in south-centralKentucky), Independence sided with the Confederacy and quickly lost its importance as a commercial center within Confederate territory. However, because many prominent local citizens helped contribute to Confederation (including Daniel Boone), Independence remains an important part of Kentucky history even today despite being severed from Louisville proper.) Eventually,due to economic depression caused byadslanticismandother factors such as seaborneinvaders intothe1860sandalsofLouisvilleandindependencetookon afrontofUniontroopsinthesouthcentralkingdomthefollowingyearduringthe BattleoftheBunker Hill Campaign(alsoknownastheSecondBattleof Fallen Timbers). In 1792, the first families of what is now Independence, Kentucky began to arrive. At that time, the area was part of Virginia and had been under British rule for several years. The first settlers were farmers and their children who came overland from England. By 1800, there were about 150 people living in Independence. In 1801, the first post office was established in Independence and mail was carried east to Louisville on horseback. On July 4th, 1802, a group of men led by Captain John Sevier bought 1/2 mile (1 km) of land at present-day Mount Vernon south of the original town site from Nicholas Robertson for $200. This grant allowed Sevier and his family to build a house on the property which they named Mount Vernon after their home country.
