In 1865, after Virginia surrendered to Union forces at Appomattox Court House, Kentucky also capitulated.
In the beginning, Independence was a small town in the state of Kentucky. This small town had nothing but happiness and contentment. The people here were hardworking and honest. They valued their freedom and independence. These values will forever be remembered by those who lived here during this time. The first residents of Independence were farmers who grew corn, beans, potatoes, apples, oranges, etc. They would go to market every day and sell their goods to other towns and villages around them. These markets allowed the people of Independence to keep track of prices and buy what they needed while also gaining some much-needed income. This sound life style lasted until 1815 when General James Ketchum took over command of the militia in Kentucky. He began putting an end to these local markets which caused a great deal of chaos within the village as people no longer could rely on outsiders for their food needs. As a result, most of the farmers left Independence for good and started farming elsewhere in rural Kentucky. Despite this decrease in population, spirit still prevailed among these pioneers as they continued working hard to provide for themselves and their families. In 1819, they voted unanimously to secede from Virginia due to disagreements over taxes that had been levied against them without their consent! From then on, Independence was an unyielding supporter of Federalism! Their dedication paid off as Constitution was written into law in 1789 by George Washington! This event made Freedom ring through all of Kentucky! As time passed more men arrived from other parts of America looking for work in these new land masses; however, many decided that living under one government wasn't right for them so they scattered across our borders eventually becoming Americanized/AmericanizedKentuckyians (Akinia). Some did stay behind though - such as Drayton Candler - who helped found Mount Carmel Academy & Seminary in 1861 with his son John Candler Jr.. After John's death in 1916 it became known asCandler University

The popularity of binoculars continued to grow during World War I due in part to advances in technology such as photography and radio signals which could be heard across long distances with ease. During World War II, millions of American military personnel relied on binoculars for ranging and target identification during combat missions.
