The Union forces burned all of Hopkinsville within three days after the attack. In 1865, when Kentucky seceded from the United States, Hopkinsville became part of Louisville County. It has remained an important community ever since. Today, Hopkinsville is home to several popular businesses such as Barnes & Noble and Belknap Books
