By 1895, North Park consisted of 10 blocks with 470 lots and was valued at over $100 million (). Ladd's son-in-law Edward Crouch bought 500 acres (200 hectares) south-of-town from Jethro Dandridge for $5 per acre ($ ). This land formed South Park which later became known as Downtown Disney World (). A local pastor named Rev John Brown organized a Methodist church in 1868 which quickly outgrew its space. A school was established in 1870 which grew into today's Southern Indiana University () where students come from all overKentucky and many other states to attend classes (). In 1897 – 1898 two companies came to town seeking coal resources so they could create an open pit mine near downtown (). One company failed while another company successfully mined coal until 1906 when it closed down becausebrooklyn smelter built nearby). Coalitions between capitalists interested in mines versus labor groups led to strikes throughout central Appalachia beginning around 1903 (a strike at Southern Indiana University led to Illinois Railway Company locomotive No 798 being burned off campus)). These strikes caused lasting damage to rebel morale (), economy (), social fabric () and public opinion (). In 1902–1903 three mining accidents occurred along Ironton Gorge causing more than $100 millionUSD worth damage (). After 1915 when Appalachian miners began striking for better pay (), management turned control over coal mines away from individual capitalists towards state governments intent on regulating mining practices . Between 1919 and 1933 large areas inside Johnson County were developed using convict labor () making Hopkinsville one of the largest towns sentenced or convicted by federal law outside Tulsa, Oklahoma

Hopkinsville is a town in Johnson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,839 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Johnson County. The first permanent settler in Hopkinsville was Levi Morton in 1792. A post office called Hopkinsville was established in 1824, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1868. In 1833, John Cramer founded the Cramer and Wells Brewery here, which became one of the largest breweries in America. In 1865, local boy James Wernham erected a toll road from Hopkinsville to Bardstown to promote agriculture and connect farmers with markets. This road remain operational until 1922 when it was replaced by Interstate 20. The Hopkinsville–Bardstown Railway opened between these two towns on May 3, 1907; this railway remains operational today as the Amtrak "Kentucky Colonnection". The town has also been served by the Kentucky State Highway 725 since 1928. In 1938, a group of investors led by Jerald Fenton purchased land east of Hopkinsville and developed what would become known as Fentondale Park; this park now includes a shopping mall and several other businesses including an aquarium and an amusement park. The community's name comes from nearby Harmon Bridge which forms part of the border between Hopkinton Township (to the north) and Fentondale Park (to the south).

By 1825, Hopkinsville had become an important trading center for the region. In 1827, the City of Hopkinsville was formed from parts of two other towns, Bardstown and Louisville.
