However, due to its strategic location on both sides of the river – which made it vulnerable to Confederate attack – Glasgow eventually fell to Union forces following their victory at Antietam Creek. Afterward, much of Glaswegian industry shifted away from production into services such as education and public health care; however, a small amount of productive infrastructure still remains today including several high-rise buildings dating back to when Glaswegian society was more diversified than it is today
