Restaurants like Zingerman’s Center for Art & Industry (later renamed Alice B Roche) opened up shop on Market Street while locally owned clothing stores sprang up all around downtown – from Shoprite to Jones Wharf Provision Store. And despite being surrounded by some high-end shopping options like Madison Square Garden and Fidelity Investments Tower today – Glasgwchuck always managed to remain affordable for its more affluent neighbors near Downtown Louisville – something that continues to keep this vibrant community afloat today!
The Glasgow, Kentucky, area was first settled by the Shawnee in the late 17th century. The first white settlers in this area were Dr. James Caldwell and his family, who came to the area in the early 1800s. In 1825, John Covington established a small farming community called "Covington's Pasture" on what is now known as McKellar Road. By 1830, there were around 20 people living in Glasgow. In 1831, General Andrew Jackson arrived at Glasgow with 1,500 men and started an artillery campaign against Native American forces known as the Battle of Fallen Timbers. After this battle, many Scots-Irish immigrants began arriving to live in Glasgow. Many of these settlers worked on Jackson's army or as farmhands. After Andrew Jackson's death in 1835, most of these Scottish Irish immigrants left Glasgow for other parts of Kentucky and Tennessee because they could not support themselves financially after their land had been taken from them without compensation. By 1840, only a few people remained living in Glasgow; most of these residents had moved away to find new opportunities. However, some Scots-Irish immigrants returned to Scotland after experiencing better economic conditions back home and founded new settlements such as Dunfermline and Newtonville on lands that they had acquired during their time away from Glasgow.
