A post office was established at Georgetown in 1828, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1901. The original Baptist church was constructed on Main Street between Second and Third Streets around 1830-1831 by Ebenezer Harmon Jr.. It burned down but was rebuilt with a more modern style and renamed First Baptist Church after its founder's death two years later. The first store opened at 8th Street southeast corner with First Avenue northeast corner on November 25, 1830 by Elijah Bledsoe & Company under license from pastor James Auldridge of Bardstown Presbyterian Church near present day Old Court House Square across from McConnell Addition shopping center nears old United States Courthouse brick building which stands today as Smithsonian Museum Of American History Building #1 across intersection from Robert E Lee Park located south side of High School lot just west side entrance off 2nd St SE
