The history of optical accessories in Georgetown, Kentucky can be traced back to 1892. At that time, the city was home to two large glass works called the American Glass Works and the British Glass Works. The American Glass Works produced a wide variety of glass products, including window panes, globes, mirrors, and other objects used in everyday life. The British Glass Works produced lenses for telescopes and other astronomical devices. In 1892, a man named James Broun founded the Optical Instrument Company in Georgetown. This company manufactured optoelectronic equipment such as eyeglasses, contact lenses, and sunglasses. Broun was able to bring new technology to the industry and help make optical products more affordable for consumers. Over time, Broun's company became one of the most well-known manufacturers of optical equipment in America. In 1922, Georgetown annexed what is now part of Louisville Slugger Field into its city limits. As a result of this annexation, Georgetown became an important center for professional baseball. In addition to being a center for baseballetics research and development, Georgetown also became home to one of the largest stadiums in Kentucky (the current stadium is named after former Mayor John Fetterman). This stadium served as both home games for the Lexington Legends (a minor league baseball team) and also hosted several major league Baseball games over its years of existence. During World War II, Georgetown played a significant role in providing military intelligence information through its possession of high-quality optics equipment. By 1944, much of this strategic optic infrastructure had been destroyed by war damage or enemy action; however, parts had been salvaged and used to build up additional wartime infrastructure at various installations around Kentucky throughout 1945-1946 inclusive Iroquois Army Ammunition Plant(later Strategic Arms Control Administration), Goodyear Tire & Rubber plant (later Raytheon Missile Factory), Louisville Naval Shipyard No 2( later Naval Weapons Station Yorktown), Worms airfield #1( later Wright Air Force Base). These facilities were used mainly for Development Test Pilot programs testing new bomber aircraft during peacetime until those planes could be production models ready for combat service by late 1946 when they were designated operational bases with control authority over these locations from within Headquarters Air Force Command."

Georgetown, Kentucky is a town in and the county seat of Grayson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 8,895 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest county in Grayson County and has a population density of . The name "Georgetown" is derived from the French word "Gervais," meaning "plain." The town of Georgetown was founded by British colonists in 1799. The first post office was established in 1814. In 1847, Georgetown became part of the newly formed United States as a result of the Compromise of 1850. As an incorporated city, Georgetown had control over its own affairs and could not be annexed by other municipalities or counties. However, due to its close proximity to Louisville and Lexington, it became subject to these larger cities' social mores and regulations. Consequently, Georgetown experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century and early 20th century; however, since annexations have occurred throughout Grayson County since then (including Cedar Rapids Municipal Airport within Georgetown), much of this growth has been offset by increased suburban development outside of town. In 2000, Mayor Joe Craft announced his candidacy for mayor against incumbent Art Acevedo; while Acevedo won with 54% of the vote ±3%, Craft placed second with 31% ±5%. On November 3rd 2002 elections results showed that Craft had lost by nearly 2 percentage points (−19%), making him ineligible for re-election as mayor but leaving him open to run for another term should he win on 2020 election day In 2016 African American Mayor Joe Craft ran for office against incumbent Art Acevedo again only to lose decisively albeit by less than 1 percentage point (-17%). This made him one step closer towards becoming Kentucky's first black mayor outright even if he will not serve out his full four year term due to terms limits set forth in state law

Georgetown was originally a small town with a population of around 100 people. However, it grew rapidly and by 1824 had reached 1,500 people. By 1850, Georgetown had surpassed Louisville as the largest city in Kentucky. The growth of Georgetown led to its incorporation as a city on November 3, 1852. It became one of the largest cities in America when it joined the Union in 1861. The economic boom that followed throughout the 19th century led to much development and investment within Georgetown. Many important buildings were constructed during this time including the Northwestern Mutual building which still stands today and has been used as a bank and hotel since its construction date in 1907. Additionally, riverboat terminals were built along both sides of the Ohio River near downtown Georgetown making it easy for traders to get goods from all over America easily. The 20th century brought about some significant changes to Georgetown however. In 1941, local resident General Motors Corporation relocated their plant from nearby Goodyear Heights to what is now known as Chevy Chase Park Avenue in order to take advantage of cheap land east of downtown for expansion purposes. This event marks an important turning point for Georgetown because it helped spur development further away from downtown into new areas such as Chevy Chase Park Avenue and northward into University Place with its now well-known shopping mall called Regency Village shopping center which opened in 1967
Georgetown was founded in 1792 as a trading post on the Kentucky-Ohio River trade route. It grew rapidly, becoming an important community with its own school and churches. The area now includes the downtown core of Georgetown and much of the old town.
