Georgetown is a small town in eastern Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,624 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington-Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. Georgetown is home to the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and has been called "the most selective university in America." Georgetown was founded in 1801 by Jesuit missionaries as a school for boys. It became an all-male institution in 1972 and now offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees. The name Georgetown comes from two French words: Gouverner (to rule) and Ville (city). The Jesuits who founded the school were looking for a new location to house their school after they lost control of Louisiana during the Napoleonic Wars. They found a tract of land near what is now Georgetown on November 3, 1801. The town that would be built on this site began to grow quickly because it was close to major trade routes and transportation hubs. By 1810, there were over 100 people living in Georgetown. When President James Kenedy arrived at Georgetown on July 7, 1861, he had just fought one of the bloodiest battles in American history when he took office. For his services during the Civil War, Kenedy was given an area north of downtown Louisville called “Kenny’s Hill” which still stands today as part of 10th Street NE between US Highways 270/277/81st Avenue NE and US Highway 412/421st Avenue NE

Georgetown is a small town in the eastern portion of Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington-Fayette metropolitan area. Georgetown was founded in 1826 by Colonel John Barton and his wife, Anne Cuthbert Barton. It became a part of the United States after its independence from Great Britain in 1776. The Bartsons' descendants continue to live there today. The first settler in Georgetown was John Barton, who arrived in 1826 and built a cabin on the present day corner of Central Avenue and State Street. He named his new settlement "Georgetown" after Holyoke College, which he had visited while studying at that institution near Boston. In 1830, George Washington Stroud moved to Georgetown with his family from Middletown (now Lebanon), Kentucky; he established an agricultural farm west of the town center where Central Avenue now stands. In 1833, Georgetown's first school was organized under the direction of Drayton Wright; it operated for two years before being closed due to lack of funding. A new school building was erected on Locust Street between Union and Market Streets in 1835; it served as the town's primary educational venue until 1954 when it became home to Parkland Hospital School District #2. That same year sawthe opening of first post office in Georgetown – located on Second Street between Elm and High Streets – which continued service until 1959 when it relocated to Third Street between Fayetteville Road and Depot Square Drive within Parkland Hospital School District #2 boundaries In 1839, Reverend James Haldane founded First Baptist Church at 3014 North Broadway (later renamed South Broadwalk) within what would become known as Georgetown University limits – becoming one of America's earliest religious denominations active within her borders A second Baptist church also opened early that decade at 9th & Market Streets just east of downtown; this building remains extant today as Old Main Elementary School across from Parkland Hospital School District #2 headquarters . As business grew throughout the 19th century outside those portions joined by Parkland Hospital School District #2 designation - primarily around Locust/High streets corridor - local taverns began hosting large gatherings called "fairs". One such event took place July 4th EDT1890 such an impact that subsequent events leading up thereto were christened "Fair Saturday" or simply "Saturday Evening." These events featured music halls (eighth floor buildings on North High Street), dance floors (second floor buildings south side Locust/High streets), food exhibits from various restaurants plus stage presentations by amateur actors from surrounding towns . Present daylocals refer to these large gatherings as 'old days'. Some Tavern Keepers still participate annually during Derby Weekend held during last weekend in late May or early June
Georgetown was founded in 1786 by General James Robertson as a military post on the Kentucky River. The town grew quickly, and in 1802 it became an incorporated village. In 1825, Georgetown became the capital of Kentucky and was renamed Nashville after Andrew Jackson's victory at the Battle of New Orleans. In 1865, Georgetown was annexed by Louisville, Kentucky, and its name changed to Louisville-Jefferson County.
