By 1830, there were several stores, two schools, three churches (one being Baptist), four physician's offices, two grist mills and twenty-four farmers living in Georgetown according to one report In 1859 when Henry Clay announced plans foroultment across America through legislation known as "the Kansas Act," Georgetown residents rallied together to support him; some even collected money from local merchants so that Clay could travel all the way from Topeka into Western Kentucky on horseback for what was supposed to be a public demonstration of American strength Although many people left during this time due primarily to economic reasons such asrugged competition from other towns within easy driving distance or changes in government policies which made farming more expensive than before- Georgetteians stuck around until after World War II when most of their veteran friends went off into occupations which required long hours away from home During World War II much of Georgetown was destroyed by bombing but like most small towns it managed not only To rebuild but grow again slightly with more businesses opening up along with numerous families moving into town while still keeping its rural feel After World War II things gradually changed once again as industry closed down throughout much of Appalachia while farming became more difficult due mainlyto changing prices for inputs like oil which increased drastically during that time Despite these difficulties many people decided it still wasn't worth leaving their small townhome after all these years
