Some famous residents include John Marshall Harlan (the 8th Ulysses S Grant), James Buchanan (Ulysses S Grant’s successor as president), Oliver Cromwell (the general who led England’s forces against British troops during World War I), George Washington Carver (founder of Archer Daniels Midland Company) – all of whom have left their mark on local culture or politics.
