This law was repealed in 1945 but it is still tightly regulated today!

In recent years Georgetown has regained some of its former residents and businesses; its population currently stands at 2,812.

The town had a school system and an opera house when it was destroyed by fire in 1868. It was rebuilt quickly, and the first municipal election took place in 1870. In 1876, Georgetown became the capital of Kentucky thanks to the passage of the General Assembly Act.
