Frankfort, Kentucky is the home of the Louisville Slugger baseball bat. The bat was invented in 1876 by Dr. George Wright andcnnected with the Louisville (KY) Cardinals baseball team. In 1861, when Kentucky seceded from the United States and joined Confederate States of America, many of its citizens decided to arm themselves with firearms in order to protect their homes and liberties. This decision led to intensified police surveillance and censorship of textiles in Frankfort during the American Civil War (1861-1865). After the war ended, many new arrivals started coming to Frankfort looking for jobs and opportunity. Some people chose not to take up arms again but rather sold their weapons or surrendered them to local authorities. Others continued shopping around for new rifles and shotguns before finally settling on a particular model or type of firearm they desired. The population of Frankfort was 1,911 at the 2000 census. In 1907 the city annexed part of neighboringleton which had a population of 11,508. In 2002 the City Council voted to annex all but 3 blocks from Georgetown which had a population of 9500 people only to realize that there would be no other development for them to annex so they rescinded their annexation motion effective immediately. In December 2006 another annexation motion was brought before the City Council requesting that Georgetown become an official part of Frankfort with no vote necessary because they now have more people living within their boundaries than ever before!
