The Fort Thomas Rifle and Pistol Club was organized on January 6, 1882. It was the first rifle and pistol club in Fort Thomas. The club met at the fort until 1886 when they moved to the old post office building. In 1903, the club bought a gun case from A.C. Higgins of Paducah, Kentucky. The club used this case to store their firearms for shooting competitions and other events. In 1911, the fort burned down so the club had to move their guns to another location until they could rebuild at Fort Knox in 1912. In 1916, the fort was decommissioned and all its arms were turned over to local government for storage or destruction. However, some of these arms still remain at present day as part of Ft Knox's collection! In 1922-1924, members of the club stored their rifles and pistols in a barn on Old Post Road near present day Kingston Pike/Fort Thomas Parkway (now US 31). This barn is now used as part of Ft Knox's visitor center! In 1935-1936, members of the club stored their rifles and pistols in an armory on Second Street in downtown Fort Thomas while they built new headquarters across First Street due to World War II shortages of ammunition! After World War II ended, membership declined because many people didn't want to carry weapons anymore! In 1947-1948 there was a fire that destroyed most of downtown Fort Thomas so again no guns were stored but some parts are still extant today including a forge whereclub members worked on making rifled bullets! In 1951-1952 we moved back into our original building which is now known as "The Armory" inside Ft Knox's visitors center! finally we moved out again in 1978 when our old home became obsolete due to construction projects going on nearby! Membership has slowly been increasing over time but currently numbers range from about 50-70 individuals primarily shooters but also includesvarious staff who help with programming etc...

In 1847, General James KNOX moved his headquarters from Louisville, Kentucky to Fort Knox after victories over Indian forces at Monongahela and Licking Rivers valleys in central Pennsylvania triggered Ulysses S. Grant's famous Overland Campaign of1846-48.
