In 1827, Ft.Thomas became part of what is now Jefferson County when it was absorbed into that county along with many other smaller settlements during the Louisiana Purchase process. In 1840, Ft.Thomas again became an important stop on the Underground Railroad as abolitionists transported slaves through its boundaries to freedom in Union territory south of Cincinnati; however, slave trade activities ceased at Ft.Thomas soon afterwards due to British raids into America undertaken by Admiral torrey during the American Civil War.. The fortifications at Ft. Thomas were decommissioned in 1865 and later destroyed by Union troops while undergoing renovation project; however, some elements have been reconstructed over time including a visitor center which open tothe public since 1984..
