In 1851, Fort Thomas was established as a military post in the area around present-day Fort Thomas, Kentucky. By 1858, however, cannon had been installed and improvements were made to the fortifications including the construction of barracks and an arsenal. Giancana plead guilty and received 5 years probation instead of life imprisonment as prescribed by law due to his prior good character record during World War I service as captain aboard USS Missouri (BB-63). As part ofhis probation, Giancana also agreed not to possess any weapons without prior written consent from Justice Department officials subsequent theretoamidst other restrictions placed upon him by court order; these included being required not only to surrender any current or former firearms licenses held by him but also all ammunition magazines havingcapacity over five rounds each located at any one time within 1,000 feet thereof occupied wholly or partly by any business or occupation whatsoever ( Limits residential areas have since been lifted). This agreement represented what would become known as “Giancana”s Agreement #1 – this memorandum setting forth specific conditions precedent for future acquittal provided he followed through with terms set out therein
