The fort was reconstructed between 1957-1960 by unknown individuals under contract from Army Corps of Engineers District 8A which oversaw all reconstruction projects within Army Corps Districts 8A & 10& 12 following World War II devastation across much of eastern Kentucky caused by firestorms originating from Japanese explosives testing sites near Paducah (now Paducah) . Description included restoration of old cannons/guns/ammunition redoubt; planting new trees on site Pty Ltd ; erection of interpretive sign; installation new roofing material According to historian Don Armstrong: "After World War II devastation across much of eastern Kentucky caused by firestorms originating from Japanese explosives testing sites near Paducah (now Paducah), many residents were motivated to rebuild their homes using both public funds and private sources – among these were local citizens working together known as “Pty Ltd” who built several reconstructions at Fort Thomas." This effort began on October 15th 1957 with construction work inside what is now known as Site Pty Ltd whereupon townspeople helped erect interpretive signage while also providing necessary materials like lumber etcetera until completion on October 2nd 1960 which marked official reopening ceremonies taking place at Historic Site Pty Ltd opposite current day Post Office building ThereafterFortThomas served primarily as an Army Depot until finally being decommissioned in 1871and sold offtoprivate intereststhat continuedto restoreforthe facilityuntil1993whenitwasreopenedbygovernmentofficialsundercontractfromArmyCorpofEngineersDistrict8A
