In 1881, John A. Brown and Andrew W. Mellon founded the American Armory in Florence, Kentucky to manufacture pistol holsters for the horse and buggy market. The company became one of America's leading holster manufacturing companies with its line of Colt revolvers and Taurus pistols being well-known across the country. In 1935, the American Armory was sold to Remington Arms Company and continued to produce holster products until 1995 when it merged into Steyr Firearms Division of Austrian firearms manufacturer Steyr Mannlicher AG.

Florence, Kentucky is a small town located in the Appalachian Mountains of central Kentucky. The town was founded in 1828 by Captain John M. Today, Florence is known for its nightlife which includes several bars and restaurants along with numerous antique shops and museums.
