In 1838, when Louisville becameKentucky's capital, New Market became Kentuckiana's county seat; however, because many people in Early France still spoke Lowcountry Scots or English fluently (due to their being employed as slaves), some continued to call themselves "Florence" even though they lived near Louisville proper and had no connection to that city whatsoever. Later that year, in an effort to consolidate all land grants within what would become Jefferson County (the area today known as Eastern Kentucky), General David Hunter issued a proclamation naming Orleans Parish as Florentia Parish; this created confusion since there were two other parishes named Orleans – one located entirely within French Terre (to the east) and another lying largely within Spanish Louisiana (to the west). When General Earl Van Dorn decided in 1880 that all remaining land grants should be consolidated into Jefferson County – which would include both Orleans Parish and Florentia Parish – he also assigned Orleans parish's name to his newly created post office at what is now downtown Florence/Orleansville; however, because so few people actually moved into this new community until after World War II (!), it has been variously spelled "Flamingo," "Folgera," or simply "Orleansville." Although much has changed since1806 when James K. Polk founded Florence/Orleansville - such as increased transportation options available throughout Indiana via railroads following its annexation by Louisville - giving credit for its growth goes back further: On December 5th of each year - which celebrates its original founding date - locals gather at Patton Park Downtown for a picnic dinner honoring those who have helped make their community such an important part of KY history!
