Erlanger is a small town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,433 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville–Jefferson County, Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first human being to live in Erlanger was John C. Calhoun in 1810. A mill and gristmill were built here by local entrepreneurs David and James McNaught in 1813-14. In 1819 a post office was established at Erlanger with Wm. Grieve as the first clerk. In 1822 David McNaught married Margaret Cook and started a grocery store which became one of the most important businesses in town until it closed its doors in 1925. The Flying J Bus Company operated from this store for many years until it moved out of town to Beech Grove after World War II (See Beech Grove). Benedict Arnold lived here during his time as a prisoner of war on February 17-20, 1865 while serving under General Ulysses S Grant at Fort Donelson near present day Paducah, Kentucky; he had been brought here by railroad workers as part of an escape plan from Nashville, Tennessee en route to Chattanooga, Tennessee where he would lead an attack on Confederate forces at Missionary Ridge on April 14th that year.[2] From 1865 until 1870 there was also anvil factory called Hardin & Weldon Manufacturing Works located east of town near present day Creekside Drive; this company produced cast iron products such as plows and hoes until it closed its doors around 1920[1]. The first post office opened at Erlanger on March 10th, 1912 with Fannie Smith as the first clerk; it served until 1942 when it relocated to nearby Jeffersonville.[1] Schools were established here starting in 1907 with Magnolia School becoming operational first then later Maple Hill School before finally closing around 1916[4]. Today only one building still stands from those schools—the oldMagnolia School which now serves as a community center—and that building has been converted into apartments[3]. Erlanger's economy began to develop rapidly following World War II thanks to new technologies like mass transportation and air travel which led to more people moving into the area and ensuing job growth[1].Today Erlangrer boasts some high technology companies including two major pharmaceuticals companies who have their headquarters inside thecommunity hospital[5],[6],a large hospital run by Catholic Charities,[7],[8]a cyber sports arena,[9][10]and several restaurants/cafés including Zingerman's German Restaurant which has been voted Best Burger Place in America multiple times,[11],[12],[13]),Asheville Pizza,[14],[15],Pico restaurant,[16],Elliott Park Golf Course,[17],and Village Spot BBQ restaurant all of which are anchored within walking distance from each other making it easy for residents to get their favorite foods without having to leave their homes!

The station served as a major stop on the Louisville and Nashville Railway (L&N), which became part of the Pennsylvania Railroad (PR) after it merged with PR on July 1, 1901. The L&N became part of Amtrak when it began running passenger trains through Kentucky in 1971. The Historic District includes many important landmarks such as the Erlanger Bank Building, local churches, schools, and businesses. It has been used as a filming location for various movies and television shows throughout its history, including "Pee Wee's Playhouse", "Deadwood", and "The Addams Family".
As the area around Erlanger, Kentucky grew more populated, people began to build homes and businesses. The first store was built in 1872 by John A. Erlanger. Over time, larger stores were built and more businesses started up. In 1916, the town of Erlangers bought a plot of land from the government for $1,000 to begin building a new high school. The school was completed in 1923 and it became known as the "Zeke" High School until 1984 when it changed its name to Erlanger Central High School.
