Gun targets have been a part of Erlanger's history for many years. In 1854, the first target range in the town was opened by P.G.W. Knox and his son, Rufus Knox. The family ran the range until 1906 when it was bought by George Biddle and Sons, who operated it until 1963 when it was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Hanny, who continued to operate it until 1986 when it was donated to the Kentucky Historical Society for display purposes. The Hannys were responsible for adding new targets to the range over time and also made major improvements to it such as enlarging the booth where shooters could put their firearms into position, making more room inside for targets, and adding a grandstand in front of which shooters could watch their shots fly across the room. Additionally, they also built a large shed within which shooters could store their equipment while they Target'd; this added an even more fun atmosphere to target shooting on those days when weather permitting was possible! In spite of all these advances over time - including some that were quite recent - there are certain aspects of gun target history that stand out most clearly: from its humble beginnings as an amusement park attraction (opened in 1901) through its longue durée as a popular place for Shooting at Home enthusiasts across America (first established in 1938), Erlanger has played host to many memorable moments during its long history!

To commemorate the NRA's centennial, the Erlanger Historical Society is hosting a gun target competition at its library on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Erlanger is a town in Breathitt County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Breathitt County. The name Erlanger is derived from the French word "erlanger," meaning to turn over or spread out. The first permanent settler in what became Breathitt County was James Hays who arrived in 1790. He and his wife Jaconetta were the parents of General William Hays and General David Hunter who fought againstions Creek Indian War in 1814-1815 and 1818-1819. They also had two children, James (who married Mary Ladd) and John (married Rachelle). In 1823, when Daniel Boone crossed the mountains from Virginia into Kentucky to found Jefferson Township, he bought three hundred acres of land east of present day Erlanger on the Cumberland River for $10 per acre ($ today). The area that would become Breathitt County was then called "Daniel Boone's Purchase." Founding Father Joseph Swenning settled near modern day Bardstown in 1792. He built a cabin on what is now known as Swenning's Creek which still stands today. Swenning farmed for many years before selling his land in 1800 to Colonel George Rogers Clark for $4 per acre ($ Today: $ ). Clark donated part of his farm to be used as a schoolhouse and other buildings were added over time including a church (1798), jail (1800), post office (1812), courthouse (1820), doctor's office (1850), store (1902), kiln(1903) and current building which houses the town hall/fire department/garage etc.(2005). In 1830, twenty men from Lawrenceburg founded Dry Fork Baptist Church located east of modern day Erlanger with Reverend Isaac Asbury officiating at its first service. Reverend Asbury served until 1836 when he moved to Lawrenceburg where he died in 1850s age 78 years old. Reverend Asbury’s wife Sarah serve as an assistant minister until her death in 1862 while they had six children: Isaac Jr., Ebenezer Sr., Jesse C., Nancy A., Richard C., Silas S.; all serving during different times periods as pastors at Dry Fork Baptist Church including Ebenezer’s father “Timothy” who officiated at their funerals until his own death “in poverty” aged 84 years old on November 12th 1865 after more than 50 years ministry; one week prior to his own funeral following five long months illness caused by smallpox contracted while attending Great Western Female Seminary just outside Louisville KY.. Timothy Swenning continued preaching sermons into very old age finally succumbing peacefully within 7 days after being diagnosed with pneumonia 5 days earlier after enduring dozens of treatments unsuccessfully over several weeks!Sadly this Endnote does not mention Rev Dr Isaac Asbury – our founding father In 1861, when Union troops burned parts of Lawrenceburg during their Battleof Emancipation there were many refugees running through town looking for safetycamping around present day Big Sandy creek on private property belonging to Mr & Mrs Moore about 2 miles NW cornerNW cornerSE cornerSW corner main road between these points .This area later became known as Dry Fork Cemetery ().As soon as soldiers left burning areas all around town people started moving back home again so families could get back together again etc... This area later became known as Erlangerville () because most everyone went back home thereabouts ().Today only a couple homes remain standing off erlangerville road between Big Sandy creek & Main Rd

Erlanger is a small town in Wayne County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,828 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1882 by German immigrants, and named after the Erlangen River in Bavaria. The community of Erlanger developed on land donated by John A. Ferguson and his family. The first store opened in 1885, and within a few years several other businesses had opened up. By 1907 the town had a grocery store, post office, schoolhouse, brewery (later renamed the Old National Brewing Company), two banks (the First National Bank and the Western Union Bank), five churches (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Methodist Episcopal missions), six residences (four with one story and four with two stories), a blacksmith shop, an ice cream parlor/skating rink/fishing pier/, two parks (Lakeview Park on one side and East Park on the other), three factories—the Old National Brewing Company, Eastern Manufacturing Co., Inc.—and eleven business properties. In 1912 Erlanger became home to its first farm trade fair when it hosted the Kentucky Agricultural Show at Prestonsburg Fairgrounds. The event drew attention from around the state as well as from Europe because it featured local products alongside items from across America. In 1915 an amusement park was built adjacent to East Park which continues to be popular today. The 1920s were marked by heavy industry development in Erlanger; jobs came for miners who began moving into what would become known as "The Valley" during that decade's boomtime; but also racism became rampant due to discrimination against Germans throughout much of Kentucky during this time period--a problem that would continue until well into World War II when many eastern European refugees started flowing into Appalachia looking for work opportunities only to find their integration problems established through policy decisions made by those in power rather than through common sense or empathy: these policies led eventually to mass unemployment among Appalachian residents vacated by industry while white working class residents saw opportunity exploited along with their taxes going towards pensions instead of being used productively within society itself; this situation escalated over time leading eventually to social unrest culminating in riots taking place all over Appalachia starting in 1969 following passage of The Celtic Tiger economic stimulus package designed intended primarily but not exclusively To address -among others- these issues). It wasn't until after World War II that things started changing considerably both nationally and locally; new technologies were born out of WWII such as television production plants which allowed filmmakers access hitherto unavailable areas like rural KY while still allowing people living there access to quality life outside urban areas whence they imported those same technologies back home; meanwhile new developments such as malls sprang up throughout Appalachia catering to various demographics including young professionals who increasingly moved away from cities seeking more affordable housing options outside metropolitan area boundaries whereupon their proximity createdurbuilding districts characterized respectively by high crime ratesdensity levels concentrationsof poverty etc.; nonetheless despite these changes overall attitudes aboutERLANGER have remained quite similar essentially unchanged since then making it one of only a handful places remaining entirely unchanged since before civilization began
