Erlanger is a small town in Harrison County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 476 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington–Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. The land that would become Erlanger was first settled by European Americans in the early 1800s. In 1819, John Erlanger donated 2,000 acres (800 hectares) of land to the Harrison County Sheriff's Department for use as a training ground for law enforcement officers. The following year, he donated an additional 8 acres (3 hectares) to the department for use as a jail and penitentiary. In 1870, Captain James Fenton built his home on what is now named Main Street in Erlanger. By 1877, there were 11 businesses in town with a total payroll of $521 cash and goods valued at $5,812. In 1909, General Electric founded its first plant in Erlanger when it acquired two patents from Elisha Gray for an electric lighting system. The company continued to grow and expand throughout its history; by 1942 it had eight plants located in different parts of Kentucky and Tennessee). By 1964, GE had merged with Westinghouse Corporation to form the world’s largest electrical manufacturer-and-installer with over 350 locations worldwide-and made Erlange one of its corporate headquarters until 1996 when it moved out into new building on Market Square across from Hopkins Schoolhouse Museum

Erlanger is a small town in Fayette County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville–Jefferson City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Erlanger is located on the banks of the River Thames north of Louisville and east of Cincinnati. The first European settlers in what would become Erlanger were French traders and explorers who arrived in 1795-96. They named their new community after Claude-Jacques erlat, an officer with La Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) under Napoleon Bonaparte during his campaigns there in 1802-1803. The town was platted in 1812 by James Averill, a planter and entrepreneur from Kentucky who had moved to Fayette County from Shelbyville, Tennessee. Averill donated land for the town site and built a stockade around it to protect it from Indian attacks. He also donated money for local roads and schools. In 1814, when Nashville became the capital of Tennessee, Averill offered his land to be used as a model city for that state's new government. When Nashville refused to take him up on his offer, he relocated his family to Erlanger and started an agricultural business there. In 1830 he sold his property within Erlangers limits to Jno Hocking for $1 million dollars cash which made him one of the richest men in America at that time. Averill died in 1833 but left behind a legacy that continues today: His townsite remains one of America's most intact rural communities with its own school system and Main Street shopping district; as well as its water tower - still operational - dating back to 1814! In 1907 Ethel Murchison Rockefeller founded Radcliffe College Preparatory School here which became Radcliffe University faculty members’ alma mater in 1932). The current campus opened its doors on September 3rd 1912 with sixty students enrolled along with Mrs Eliot Staughton (founder), president Smedley Butler Marshall (chief justice), Rev Dr John Daugherty (bishop) & Rev Dr Arthur Ashe (tennis player) giving speech before classes beganOn this occasion “our college girls gathered about us like flowers…To open our hearts they lifted their veils”
