The community was founded by John Erlanger and his family in 1807 as a log cabin on the banks of the Elk Run River. The first post office was established in 1810. In 1827, John Erlanger donated land to form what is now the town of Erlanger. John Erlanger left behind a lasting legacy in Erlanger with his donation of land for a Methodist church and school, which are still active today. John A. Moreland became mayor ofErlanger in 1984 after winning an open election against incumbent Mayor Don Matson Jr.. Moreland served until his death in 2006. He had been mayor since 1984 when he took office after being elected sheriff from Hardin County for two terms (1983-1986). In recent years, much development has occurred within the borders ofErlangerschool district including new businesses and residences coming into town while also preserving many historic buildings that have been part of the community since its establishment over 200 years ago

Erlanger is a town in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 4,089 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pike County. The first settler in what is now Erlanger was John Stephenson who arrived in 1792. He built a log cabin on a bluff above the mouth of Little Raccoon River and named it "Erlanger." The community grew rapidly during the early 1800s when many people from Northern Kentucky moved to this area because of improved transportation and other factors. In 1810, Ebin McDowell founded a small town nearby and named it McDowellville after his father-in-law, James McDowell. In 1815, General Andrew Jackson invaded Kentucky and pushed through Pike County into what are now Hardee and Perry counties. When he reached Erlanger he found that McDowellville had been abandoned by its original inhabitants due to lack of food or water supplies after Jackson's destructive march through the area two years earlier. A few weeks later Jackson ordered all civilians within three miles (5 km) of his army's camps to leave because he believed they were supporting rebel forces as they fought against his troops near Louisville. Many residents chose to flee rather than face possible destruction or execution by Jackson's forces which totaled over 100,000 men and women at that time. Fearing for their safety, many local farmers took up arms againstJackson and eventually led him back across the state line into Tennessee where he surrendered on May 5, 1818. Aftermath of the war caused an influx of refugees which increased demand for food and housing so much so that prices for goods became prohibitively high for most Americans living outside urban areas such as Cincinnati and Philadelphia during this time period. Consequently, many farmers turned their attention to raising crops inremote areas such as these two towns located just outside of Nashville because there were no other options available at that time aside fromExtreme poverty which plagued these rural communities during this era When railroads came along shortly thereafter they allowed farmers more access to markets beyond their homes creating new opportunities however those same conditions continued until recently when advances in technology have made production easier while also reducing costs associated with traditional farming methods
Some of the earliest settlers in Erlanger were German immigrants who arrived in 1815. The village was founded by a group of farmers led by Andrew Erlanger. The first post office was established in 1827, and the first store was built in 1830. In 1857, the town had a population of just six people. By 1870, however,Erlanger had developed into a small community with a school and two stores. The early years of the 20th century were difficult for Erlanger as World War I kept many residents away from their homes. However, during the war, demand for goods brought new life to the village and helped to spark economic development. From 1919 until 1924, Erlangler served as one of three voting towns on the Knox County Board of Education. During World War II,Erlanger saw significant activity as it became home to several military installations including Fort Knox and Naval Weapons Station Lexington-Fulton Point. After the war ended, many of these facilities closed or were converted into other uses such as apartments and retail businesses. In recent years,Erlarger has seen some resurgence with efforts being made to promote its history and culture within the community. One example is an effort to create a new museum which will focus on local histories dating back to before 1914 when Erlangerville was known as East Greenbush Settlement 1st Congregational Church
