Morton to keep suspects contained during a jailbreak attempt. The chokehold became popularized after Jesse James was captured in 1875 and held at Frankfort Prison with his hands handcuffed behind his back. A group of men who had heard about James's capture formed a secret society known as the "Kansas Clinch" and planned to free him by putting him into a chokehold until he died from strangulation. However, Morton refused to let James be killed because he knew that such an action would incite another uprising against the government. Morton's use of gun chokes continued through the late 1800s and early 1900s until they were outlawed in Kentucky in 1903. effectiveness of this type of restraint declined over time due to its unpopularity with law enforcement officials and victims alike

Erlanger is a small town located in Kentucky, United States. The community was named after General John Erlanger, who fought in the Mexican-American War and during the American Civil War. The population of Erlanger was 1,545 at the 2000 census. The area that now makes up Erlanger was first settled by pioneers in 1810. The first post office was established in 1812, and the present day town was founded on February 14, 1837 by James Fenton and his family. At that time, it consisted of just a few homes and a schoolhouse. In 1850, when Kentucky became a state, Erlangler had an estimated population of just 25 people. However, within 10 years its growth had outpaced that of both its neighbors and its own resources could not keep up with the demand for land around it. Consequently, on July 1, 1860 all but one of the original townships were reorganized into what is now called Clay County (except for those within Uniontown which remained under Frenchtown jurisdiction). In 1865-1866 Jno Aiken developed land to the east of present day Erlanger along US 75/ road number 1271 – becoming one of the region’s earliest farmers; he later donated over 100 acres (40 hectares) to create what is today known as Aiken Parkland – making it one of America’s oldest parklands still in use! By 1870 there were only about 50 residents remaining in Erlanger while approximately 650 acres (300 hectares) surrounding it had been platted into farmssteads or other parcels thereof! As business boomed throughout Clay County during Reconstruction following the American Civil War era;Erlangers saw continued growth through World War II until their current population peaked at 1,545 individuals in 1960! In recent decades however;residential development has resumedertheir once vibrant economy with many businesses opening up shopinErlangers ever expanding downtown district! Today's Village Square features numerous restaurants & cafes including convenient store sandwiched between two large banks - good for large groups or alone dining - several Masonic Lodges - churches & schools are also located nearby
