It is part of the Louisville–Jefferson County, Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area. Erlanger was founded by John and Anna Erlanger in 1838 as a post office on the Kentucky frontier. In 1851, it became the county seat of McCracken County and remained so until 1897 when Louisville took over that role. The town was designed by American architect James Gamble in an Italianate style inspired by Rome's Colle Oppio and Verona's Piazza Franca. The neo-classical Revival architecture is significant for its sophistication and engineering principles utilized throughout the area: originally gravity-defying up to 50 feet (15 m) of height due to its location atop a hillock near the confluence of two streams, Gamble used structural iron supports to hold buildings withstood severe wind and weather conditions for more than 100 years. The first school in what would become Erlanger opened in 1838 as a one-room log building on land donated by John Erlanger Sr.. Classes began in October of that year but were moved to temporary quarters for three months each winter because of extreme cold temperatures. By 1850, there were twelve students attending school; however, only six pupils could be accommodated in each class room because there were no seats for teachers or other students beyond windowsills or doorways. A second school was built on property adjoining Anna’s home from 1852-1855 which had space for thirty students but only twelve could be accommodated due to lack of classrooms andboards; furthermore,Anna used her kitchen as a teaching lab during term time with her five children living upstairs while they attended school downstairs on Wednesdays/ Fridays after dinner while their parents worked outside during lunchtime. In addition to education opportunities for local residents children here also learned how to plow snow off Roadways using hoes given away at celebrations like Thanksgiving or Christmas! In order increase enrollment into public schools duringterm times all citizens were encouraged starting in 1860 to bring their children along onto stagecoach trips (or wagonloads) down into Logstown where they would attend one day per week long primary school session before returning home AGAIN on Monday night! This not only gave our kids an opportunity see firsthand some pretty impressive sights including present day University Park next door but also helped teach them discipline skills necessary when attending public schools!!! Unfortunately this clever marketing gimmick did not last very long however due largely because people who traveled down didn’t want their little ones getting too close anyways! However it still gives us great bragging rights today knowing that even Governor Ford himself once made an appearance here back when he represented KY at the World’s Columbian Exposition!! As mentioned before logging played an important role early stagesin developing this area with many trees being harvested right off the ground including cedar which then went through several processing steps such as splitting into boards (chiseling), staining (bronze & brass coloration), being sanded smooth then lain down to dry leaving ridges & bumps called veneers etc………………….. Today we still enjoy fresh cedar Absolute quality 9 out 12 years thanks mainlyto fact that all those hard work years ago paid off

Erlanger is a town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 522 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville-Jeffersonburg, KY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Erlanger settlers arrived in 1821 from Delaware Township in Washington County, Indiana. They were led by Captain John Hargrave and his family. Captain Hargrave's brother David also settled in this area and built a cabin on the bank of the Harlan River about two miles east of present-day Erlanger. Captain Hargrave's daughter later married Colonel John Sweeny and their descendants continued to live here until 1907 when they moved to Lexington. In 1851, James Covington erected a log cabin near what is now the town square on land grant from Samuel Watkins Sr.. In 1858, he sold his interest in the property to Nathaniel Lyon for $400 cash. The current courthouse was built between 1893 and 1895 by Jno. Waddell & Son of Paducah, Kentucky as part of a larger courthouse project that included improvements to both the downtown business district and public square in downtown Erlanger. This building still stands today as one of Erlanger's most prominent landmarks along with several other contributing buildings including First Baptist Church (1892), Masonic Lodge No. 3 (1905), old post office (1898), store (1911), general store/canton schoolhouse (1894), blacksmith shop (1889) and grocery store/residential complex (1980). On July 1, 1907, Hardin County was created from portions of Jefferson County when it was reorganized following the admission of new territory into Kentucky following the Civil War victory over Virginia forces at battles such as Malvern Hill and Petersburg Heights. At its creation, Hardin County had an area of , making it second only to Jefferson County in size within Kentucky after that county had been established May 24th,. At its peak during World War I with a population of 10,,000 people living in 56 towns and villages within its borders, Erlanger was listed among these communities but ultimately failed to join them because it did not fall within any major military engagement or battle field during those hostilities which greatly reduced its population; however hard times did not stop residents from continuing their own community activities such as music festivals or social dances which attracted manyraught locals throughout these years notwithstanding some periodic economic setbacks due largely to low commodity prices for farm products nationally during this time period despite increased production Efforts have been made over recent years by various groups interested therein resurrecting aspects or all aspectsof local culture amd history efforts are ongoing
