Erlanger is a small town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington–Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. Erlanger was founded in 1872 by brothers Jacob and Israel Erlanger. The Erlangers built a log cabin on the current site of their business to provide shade for their crops. The community grew rapidly and soon had a grocery store, post office, school, and Baptist church. In 1896, the family sold their holdings to A.W. Stephenson Investments Company which renamed it Stephenson-Erlanger Stores Incorporated. By 1912 the company had developed into one of Kentucky's largest retail merchants with over 100 stores statewide including 12 in Louisville metropolitan area In 1918 Stephenson-Erlanger merged with rival Enterprise National Corporation to form Enterprise National Corp.-Strathmore Stores Incorporated (ENS). ENS operated as Strathmore Stores until 1971 when it was acquired by JCPenney Holding Co., who continue to operate it as Strathmore-JCPenney Holdings Incorporated today. Today Erlangers residents enjoy access to several shopping centers located within minutes' driving distance: two main shopping areas are located in downtown Erlanger and just east of town off I-265; while other larger malls include Marshall Field's Sears/Kmart/Giant Eagle and Macy's/Holidaysomediessupercenter from Springfield, Missouri across I-265 from downtown Erlanger; and Chaney's BBQ & Ribs restaurant adjacent to Interstate 265 east of town near Union Mills Mall amusement park on an approximately . Additionally there are several smaller independent retailers throughout the community offering local products such as fabric stores or hair salons open Monday through Saturday 9am - 6pm; grocers such as Kroger or Publix open 7am - 10pm; gas stations including ExxonMobil gasoline station located just south of town east off Interstate 265 next to Kroger market; fishing resources including a landing dock at Bullard Dam located about northeast of town center that provides access to several streams stocked with fish both fresh and salt water

Erlanger, Kentucky is a town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,512 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the German word "erlangen" meaning "to get near." Erlanger was founded by Germans in 1853 and named for Wilhelm Erlangen, a judge in nearby Georgetown. The first store in town was built on Main Street by George Hays and opened in 1854. A post office was established at Erlanger in 1855, and the town had its first school in that year. In 1865, John Crouch built a log cabin on current-day Summit Drive to serve as the first public house in town. By 1870, there were ten stores and seventy-six residents living here. In 1892, J.F. Smith began to clear land for what would become Louisville & Nashville Railroad (L&N) tracks between Erlanger and Paducah Junction; this made Erlanger an important rail junction because it helped keep L&N moving forward without having to go through Georgetown or Lexington on their way northward or southward respectively. In 1893/94 Jens Ditlevius arrived from Sweden with his family to start Henderson Bros., one of the largest grocery stores west of the Allegheny Mountains when he arrived here; Henderson Bros.' success encouraged other shopping centers throughout Appalachia to follow suit with their own versions of this type of store which helped spur economic growth throughout these areas during the late 19th century onward... In 1911/12 Prentice Wirtz started leasing some land east of town from John Fenton which would become Wirtz Field; this led to another boom period as businesses catering to farmers came into being along with various manufacturing facilities such as Leatherwood Mfg., Typewriter Factory #2 (later Action typewriters), Rubber Manufacturer's Warehouse (now Eastern Rubber Works), Ford Auto Parts Depot #1 (later IHOP), among others... By 1920 there were six stores open and 1,500 people living here but by 1930 only two remained open while 468 people lived here including 515 Americans who worked for fifty different companies located within easy walking distance of each other just outside of downtownErlangersouthwest side
In 1814, the United States acquired land in what is now Kentucky. The area was part of the Louisiana Purchase. In 1819, General James K. Polk captured Mobile Bay and became President of the United States. He announced a plan to move the capital from Philadelphia to Washington D.C., but Congress refused to agree to his plan. The capital was instead moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 1821. In 1865, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in Maryland and only four days after he took office, Lexington was renamed "Lincoln City."
