Elizabethtown is a small town in Pike County, Kentucky, located about 18 miles northeast of Lexington. In December 1995, when Kentucky became an independent statehood referendum voted on by citizens statewide, Elizabethtown voted overwhelmingly to remain part of Kentucky; however, its representation on the Kentuckiana congressional delegation ended following ratification of statehood legislation by Congress. Today's economy is based largely upon tourism which has seen growth thanks to its location near severalinteresting sites including Bardstown Castle/National Historic Site (estimated attendance over 50 million visitors per year),Lexington University campus (largest single employer in town with over 1,000 employees)andthe Wallace Collection Museum of Art & History located adjacent to downtown. Some notable residents include Mayor Greg Fischer (who served from 2007-2015), Governor Matt Bevin(2007-2015) and Senator Rand Paul(2011-present).

Fremont after he helped to gain independence from Great Britain. The town had a population of about 350 in 1830 and 1,000 in 1840. It declined rapidly in the 1840s due to factors such as disease and economic hardship. By 1860, Elizabethtown had a population of just 25 people and no businesses.
