Grant's new country after the Civil War. This influx led to some tension between black and white residents but also helped create an ethnic identity for many black residents that continues today

One of President Roosevelt's major goals was to help create homespun cotton textile mills across America which would help revive traditional industries within America that were struggling during the Great Depression. It wasn't until after World War II thatElizabethtown began experiencing significant growth again thanks to new development along Interstate 65 and other efforts by local officials such as Mayor Tom McMillin Jr.. In 1969-1970, much attention turned towards Operation Ivy which aimed to clean up localized pollution caused by disreputable characters inhabiting certain parts of central Kentucky including Elizabethton
