After the war ended, many people moved to Elizabethtown from surrounding towns because of its low taxes and good schools. In 2000, President George W Bush traveled to Elizabethtown to talk about coal mining with miners who were still working underground. That same year, Jane Addams opened her home there as an open-air museum called "The Gilded Cage". In 2006–2007,Elizabethtown sponsored two seasons of "Britain's Got Talent" across four different countries; one season aired in England while another aired in Ireland and Scotland; both seasons were hosted by Simon Cowell (). In 1919, when Robert Ewart Butler became Ulysses S. Grant's Secretary of War, he visitedElizabethtown to inspect local munitions plants that were producing ammunition for war efforts overseas. During his visit, he called Elizabethtown "one of our great munitions towns." While much has changed since then regarding economic fortunes or political stability within Kentucky communities across different eras - such as Elizabethtown - much remains unchanged about this small but valiant slice of history that is rich with culture and humanity
