In 1836, landowner Daniel Boone purchasedof land north of present-day Danville from Fenton for £10 ($16). He named his new settlement "Boone's Ferry", after himself and his brother Boone who had sold him the land. The town grew rapidly thanks to its location on the river and access to timberlands for lumbering and farming. By 1840, there were over 100 people living in Boone's Ferry. In 1851, John Hargrave bought 640 acres (2 km²) of present-day Danville from Daniel Boone for $100 ($1,560). During this time period, agriculture became an important aspect of local life as many farmers used their land to grow corn or wheat for commercial purposes rather than farmsteads themselves; also during this time period several stores opened up along with some grist mills that processed maize into flour which was distributed throughout Louisville area In 1870s two brothers by the name of Wills founded another store called Gillett & Wills Store across from Gillett Bros Grain Mill which later became JBS Foods Incorporated In 1916 when General Electric acquired GEICO insurance company it merged with Allstate Insurance Company creating GEICO/Allstate Corporation
