Danville is a small town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,552 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Harrisonburg- Danville micropolitan area. The first permanent settlers in what is now Danville were two families that came overland from Virginia in 1785. In 1802, they organized a town corporation and named it after their patron saint, St. Danilo. They built astorehouse and churches on the east side of River Road (now US 127) and subdivided their land to form lots for sale. The first courthouse was erected in 1811 on the property now occupied by the First Baptist Church. In 1825, Daniel Boone and his party arrived at what is now Danville from Kentucky with horses and wagons carrying goods for General James Krieger's army during the Mexican War. They called this place "Boone's Station" after General Boone's horsemen had reached it earlier that year while crossing the Great Raccoon River on horseback. Stapler manufacturing began in earnest here in 1869 when William Stapler founded his company which operated until 1927 based at 910 Main Street (). This factory manufactured staples such as paper clips, napkins, bread crumbs and other common household items until its closure in 1987 due to technological advancements which made production simpler and more efficient than ever before!
