Danville is a small town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded by General Daniel Boone on July 10, 1786 as a place called Newtown. He named it after his birthplace in Ireland – Danville. In 1801, he and his family moved to what is now Danville from their original home near Princeton in Overton County. The initial settlement consisted of only twenty-six people and included three log cabins. By 1803, over one hundred families had moved into the area and began developing farming lands that would later become Danville Township. In 1825, John Crampton became the first postmaster for Danville and served until 1830 when Isaac Dandridge took over. Dandridge was an early investor in railroads which led to increased trade through the area and contributed to the growth of Danville. In 1854, George Stephenson erected a steamboat dock on the river at what is now known as Waterford Landing for transportation of goods from Kentucky to Indiana via rapids on the Ohio River. This helped spur development in inland areas of Hardin County and increased business opportunities for businesses such as sawmills and grist mills along with new residential developments like White Hall Plantation (now known as Old Hickory Place). In 1895, Manufacturing Company No 4 established operations in what is today known as White Hall Plantation which produced bicycles and other items before closing its doors in 1961 due to competition from Sears Roebuck & Co.. Today only memories remain of this company including an exhibit featuring coffee beans grown at White Hall during that time period located inside Joe's Coffee House located adjacent to Interstate 65 just south of downtownDanville The 20th century brought about changes for Danville residents with World War II bringing military activity into town which impacted agricultural production; however, postwar years were more peaceful with no active military presence until 1964 when Ulysses S Grant visited Hardin County while campaigning for president against incumbent Franklin D Roosevelt . Danville is a town in Butler County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 7,553 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Butler County. The name "Danville" is derived from Daniel Boone's home in the area. The first settler in what is now Danville was James Caldwell, who arrived around 1795. He and his family built a log cabin on the banks of the river called Caldwells Fork. In 1801, John Todd founded a sawmill on the same stream where Caldwell had First Settler construction two years earlier. The first post office in Danville was established in 1817 by Captain Nathan Bedford with three other settlers as trustees to manage and operate it. In 1830, John Cofer became Postmaster and continued until 1840 when he resigned because of illness. A store and mill were built on Main Street in 1834 by Jno.[1] In 1850, Elijah Hicks moved to Danville from Elizabethtown (now Elizabethtown Heights), Kentucky and started an gristmill on Mill Creek known as Hicks' Mill which continued operation until 1951 when it burned down due to negligence by its owner/manager Wm[2][3]. By 1860, there were twenty-four farmers living in Danville with ninety buildings including five stores and one blacksmith shop; all but two of these homes still stand today! Many residents collected eggs for local consumption during this time as well as raising hogs for meat or sale during their summer months; some also raised chickens or bees! One resident sums up early days: "It must have been very backwoods when we first came here – but it’s such a nice place now!" Today's downtown features many businesses including several clothing stores along with several cafes serving foods like pizza and burgers! In addition to its namesake creek that runs through town limits, another significant body of water - Big Sandy Creek - lies just outside town limits about four miles long! This provides ample opportunity for swimming if desired! The community began experiencing growth following World War II thanks to numerous new businesses opening up throughout danville such as M&M's Auto Parts Store opened up by Melvin Grimes in 1951[4], Donnie's Lumber & Hardware starting up by Donnie Dugan just south of town limits([5]), JC Penney becoming operational across from M&M's,[6] Applebees opening up next door[7], Harrods department store opening soon after,[8] KFC coming online right near the edge of townlimits(opened Dec '94)[9],[10], Pizza Hutopening up shop across from Applebees late 1990s[11],[12],[13],[14]; among others!!! From then on things kept picking up with more churches being constructed (First Baptist setuptown Hospital 2016), more schools opening (local high school added to middle school program 2015), plus plenty more services available like dog walking etc., etc., making life easy for everyone involved!!
Danville was founded in 1811 by Captain John Danforth. It was named after General James Danforth, who fought in the War of 1812. The town grew rapidly and soon had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1825, General Anthony Wayne captured Danville during the Battle of Fallen Timbers and renamed it for himself.
