The history of firearms and the clothing industry in Danville, Kentucky dates back to the late 1800s. The town was founded by Methodists in 1885, and it soon became a center for gun manufacturing. Danville was founded in 1775 by James Caldwell and his family. The Caldwells were the first permanent settlers in Kentucky. Danville became a town in 1814, when it was laid out by John Patterson. It was named for General Daniel Boone, who had served as military governor of Kentucky from 1792 to 1800.
