The first bullets were created in 1859 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte, a gunsmith in Danville. The townspeople brought cannons into town to shoot at targets, and they needed ammo for these weapons. Gunners would take pieces of metal out of cannons, cut them into small rounds, and then put these rounds back into the Cannon. These rounds were called “bullets” because they looked like small needles when seen from a distance. In 1861, Confederate forces attacked Union troops on May 12th whileDanville was celebrating its centennial anniversary. A bombardment of the town began soon after and continued until early morning on May 14th when it ended with no loss on either side. This attack is still commemorated as one of the most successful uses of artillery against unarmed civilians ever recorded.

On July 15, 1924, an actwas passed which designatedDanville as "the capital of eastern Kentucky". This designation lasted until September 5th when Lexington annexed all but two of Pike County and made Danville an unincorporated community again. Danville is a city in and the county seat of Clark County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 381 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Clark County by population. Danville's history dates back to 1811 when it was founded as a small town on the then-newly created line between Middlesboro and Louisville counties. In 1825, it became the first incorporated city in Clark County. The city was named after Daniel Boone because he had come to Clarksville from Virginia and organized a hunting party that discovered this location during his travels through western Kentucky in 1791. The downtown area has been renovated several times since becoming an urban area; most notably in 2006 when it underwent a $60 million renovation which completely re-landscaped the area including new streets, sidewalks, public transportation terminals and parklands. The renovation also added new restaurants and entertainment options as well as updated public safety equipment including police cars with lights and sirens. Additionally, many neighborhoods have been rebuilt or redesigned such as Northcenter which straddles the border of Clarksville proper and Oldtown which covers much of what is now Bridgeport Square mall near downtown Danville. The arrival of Interstate 65 (I-65) made Danville one of its earliest metro areas; however, until recently much of its retail development occurred outside of downtown due to sparse zoning laws around that time period making it difficult to build out businesses near I-65 within walking distance for most citizens. This situation has begun to change with new business ventures being started in DowntownDanville across from I-65 along State Street just east of University Avenue
