Danville is a small town in Bourbon County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville-Jefferson County metropolitan area. Danville declined to become an independent city until 1870 when it voted to join the larger city of Louisville as a separate municipality. The cause remains unknown but may have been caused by a faulty electrical outlet or an uninsulated building. In 1924, Danvillenicknamed "The Friendly City" because its citizens were so friendly to each other during World War I and World War II shortages due to rationing policies implemented by President Franklin D Roosevelt's New Deal Coalition government. This policy led some people to nickname all American cities "friendly cities."
