By 1810, over two thousand people were living in Fenton's Purchase and it had become one of the largest slave plantations in America. In 1821, General William Taney bought 1/3rd of Fenton's plantation and moved his family to live there permanently with their slaves under his care. They became known as Taney's Plantation owners because they controlled all aspects of life on their estate which included cultivation of tobacco and rice fields; construction of homes; issuance of licenses for tobacco production; regulation of slavery within limits laid down by state law; arbitration between masters and slaves about disputes; education for children under age twelve; management (and sale) of animals used for labor on the plantation including horses, dogs, pigs, mules etc.; trade with other portions of Kentucky and Tennessee ; contract maintenance services such as painting houses or driving teams through mines etc.; slave marriages among themselves In 1830 John Sharp built a small cabin near where he now lives on Springhill Road east Of Downtown Covington for his wife Elizabeth Sharp - this became their permanent home until her death in 1865 . Elizabeth had married John Sharp when she was sixteen years old while he was twenty-four years old Elizabeth’s parents died when she was young so she grew up being raised by her husband & mother-in-law until her death aged eighty five years From 1830 until 1840 Elisha Prentice lived next door to Captains John Sevier & Stephen Fenton at 202 South High Street which is now known as Maple Leaf Drive After 1840 Elisha Prentice moved to Illinois but took possession of some property that adjoined Captains John Sevier’s& Stephen Fenton’s lands East Of Downtown Covington which he named “Prentice’s Addition” In 1861 Arent Hinton purchased 2/3rd interest in Captains John Sevier’s & Stephen Fenton’s lands East Of Downtown from Mr Pryor effective 15 May 1861 For $2 million dollars This transaction changed hands 3 more times during its duration resulting in 25 different owner changes thruout its history

The town of Covington was founded on the banks of the River Thames in 1799 by General James Moncrieffe. The first homes were erected on the land that is now known as Roundabout Park. In 1814, the town was renamed for General Andrew Jackson, who had been victorious at Battle of New Orleans. The population grew rapidly during the 19th century, and by 1870 it had reached 1,500 residents. However, during World War I, the town lost most of its residents to war-related enlistments. By 1929, however, Covington had regained most of its population and began to experience rapid growth again. Today, Covington is a thriving community with a strong economy and vibrant cultural scene.
