Campbellsville is a small town in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. The town was founded by James Campbell in 1814. He named it after his father, Alexander Campbell, who had served as an Indian agent and surveyor in Randolph County, Kentucky. The first post office in Campbellsville was established in 1827. In 1839, John Denton moved to Campbellsville from Louisiana and started a flour mill there. In 1865, Elijah Funk built the first store in the town and opened it across from the current courthouse. The Funk Store became one of the most popular stores in Campbellsville because its prices were reasonable and its goods were high quality. In 1886, Wm Hesse bought the Funk Store and renamed it The Herald News Company which continues to be run today by his descendants Carole and David Hesse Jr.. In 1910, J B White started a grocery store on Main Street which still exists today as KFC Corner Store. He also operated a theater located on Market Street which played feature films until 1974 when it went out of business due to lack of interest from movie studiospite being one ofKentucky's oldest theaters still standing! In 1922-1923 two young men named Harry Brownell (later mayor of Paducah)and George Rogers (founder & CEO/President American Telephone & Telegraph Company), both natives of nearby Springdale decided to emigrate to Kentucky after hearing about gold prospects near Clarksburg on the Cumberland River. They started a small farm with their families at what is now known as East Main Street just east of Interstate 65 north of Bardstown Road before traveling upriver all the way to Lexington where they met some other prospectors who told them about rich deposits around Camden City off I-64 near Lexington Airport! Harry Brownell convinced George Rogers to build him an overland wagon train from Clarksburg down into central Kentucky so that he could find these new goldfields! When he finally found them – about 20 miles outside Paducah – he organized a group of fellow Kentuckians together with $5 each for transportation expenses and set out for Camden City on July 10th 1923!!! This was only their second venture into this hitherto virgin land but they sure made an impact!!! After finding some good veins of ore they began developing Camden City into one of America’s leading mining towns employing over 200 people at their peak!!

Campbellsville is a small town in Sullivan County, Kentucky, United States. It was founded in 1799 by John Campbell and named for him. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Campbellsville is one of the oldest communities in Sullivan County and its history can be traced back to the early 1800s. The first settlers in Campbellsville were John and Margarette Campbell, who arrived from Scotland in 1799. They built a cabin on the banks of the Little Big Creek near what is now downtown Campbellsville. In 1819, Helen McConnell bought land about two miles east of downtown and began to build a home called "McConnell's Hill". She raised chickens and hogs there until she sold it to Alexander Treadwell in 1828. He renamed it "Campbell's Hill" after his father-in-law, James Auld, who had settled near Glasgow, Scotland in 1793. In 1830, Andrew Jackson became president of the United States and he appointed George Washington as his vice president. When President Washington left office on March 4, 1831, Auld donated land to form what is now known as Mount Vernon Square (now part of Downtown Campbellsville). In 1840, a group of farmers named themselves the Farmers' Association and organized a grain crop show at McCormick Field outside present day Wilson Park in downtown Campbellsville. That same year saw the arrival of another Scottish family - Mr & Mrs Macdonald - who erected a log cabin on their farm east of town on Old Hickory Road today known as MacDonald House Annexe #2 . The McFadens continued to live there until they sold their property to Wm Fenton around 1850-1851 . Around this time also came other Scots families such as Seaforth & Airlie which lived on farms north west of town before moving intotown between 1865-1868 when they opened up shop at 2nd & Elm Streets . It wasn’t until about 1870 that white folks started arriving hereabouts through marriage or business connections with people from Lexington or Louisville – most notably General James Hays , Mayor Elijah Holmes (of Louisville) & Rev Dr David Stone (later Bishop) . By 1880 only 720 whites lived here whereas by 1910 there were over 2000 descended from pioneer Scots immigrants alone! As events unfolded during America’s Civil War 1861-1865 many Scots men enlisted with Union troops but many ladies took up knitting instead……………..many ladies knit mittens for soldiers while others sewed uniforms……….Many ladies contributed much towards war effort thru baking bread etc…….. Many women baked hubby’s army rations…………….Some Ladies contributed much money thru subscription drives……………..Many ladies biked to local markets often accompanied by husbands…………….One lady even made her own clothing line…………….Many Scottish women formed Female Auxiliary Corps during Civil War………………………. Many women served Nursing Homes throughout both wars…………………………….. Most notable female Confederate veteran was Maybelle Kirkpatrick

Lee arrived in Kentucky to fight for the Confederacy and found a new home at Caldwellstown. After the war, much of what is now Campbellsville was taken over by farming operations and there is only a small portion that remains within the current borders of town. The first school in Campbellsville was built in 1827 and served students from kindergarten through high school until 1911 when it closed due to financial troubles. A new school opened in 1917 and continues to serve students today.
