Campbellsville is a town in Scott County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,491 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington–Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Campbellsville was James Bledsoe, who arrived in 1781. In 1814, John Aiken founded the Aiken Agricultural and Manufacturing Company which became one of the leading agricultural companies in Kentucky. In 1825, Isaac Campbell moved to Campbellsville from Logansport with his family; he had been born there two years earlier. Isaac ran a large farm and served as justice of the peace and postmaster for many years. He also donated land to create what is now University Park Drive (now State Road 336). Apostle George White established an academy in 1827 and later named it after himself. The school rose to become one of the most prominent educational institutions in eastern Kentucky; its students included many future leaders such as Ulysses S. Grant and Daniel Webster. The original courthouse was built on present-day State Road 336 between 1850 and 1860; it burned down during Reconstruction but was soon replaced by a more modern building that still stands today. In 1865, William Hinton purchased some land northeast of Campbellsville along US 340; he founded Hinton's Mills which became one of the largest cotton plantations in America. Hinton's mills produced millions of pounds of raw cotton each year until they closed in 1978 due to economic conditions within America at that time. On October 16, 1897, David Jensey married Julia Elizabeth Bevan at her home just northeast of Campbellsville; they would eventually have six children together until their deaths all aged between 20 and 44 years old: four daughters (Margaret Alice Jensey died young), three sons (David Jensey Jr., Benjamin Bevan III, Thomas Bevan) – all successful business people – and one son-in-law (John Wesley Payne). The community has seen numerous changes over time including growth in manufacturing since liver diseases were once rampant among locals working on local cotton plantations; this led tocci's company being briefly headquartered here before moving back eastward into larger facilities near Louisville early last century before relocating again recently back westward into southern Indiana where they remain today
