Campbellsville is a small town in Kentucky, located in the eastern panhandle of the state. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. The community was named after General James Campbell, who died in 1812 during the Mexican-American War. A post office called Campbellsville was established in 1827, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. Campbellsville was originally laid out as a village by Colonel John Hargrave and his son-in-law, Judge George Washington Carver. The first store opened in 1851 and the first school began teaching on October 15th that year. By 1870, over 20 businesses had been founded including two grocery stores, two blacksmith shops, a carriage shop, three harness shops and a foundry. In 1907 an express train derailed near Campbellsville killing eight passengers and injuringixty five others; this event made national headlines due to its severity. The depot which served as local transportation for locals still stands today within walking distance of most residents. A post office operated at Campbellsville from 1907 to 1912; it was moved to Lebanon when that town became separate from Campbellsville proper. The only hospital located within town limits until 1959 were three general stores which provided medical services to local residents; these facilities closed when consolidation among larger hospitals led to less need for such services within individual communities. However, one clinic remains open today providing care for patients from surrounding towns including Lebanon and Bardstown while also providing primary health care services to their citizens outside of town limits (i.e., those living east of Interstate 65). Today much of what once characterized typical rural life has been replaced by dense urban development with access to modern amenities nearby but anchored by traditional values likeadrushing creek running through center of townand two churches

Campbellsville is a small town in Whitley County, Kentucky, United States. It was first settled in 1792. The population was 1,259 at the 2010 census. The first settlers in Campbellsville were James and Martha Campbell who arrived in 1792 from Bangor, England. James was a surveyor and Martha was a servant. They erected a cabin on the banks of the river near where it now stands. In 1800, John Campbell arrived from Scotland with his family and started to farm in what is now Campbellsville. He also built a mill here which still stands today. In 1812, John Fenton came to Kentucky and discovered coal mines near present-day Campbellsville. He hired some men to mine for him but they all died in the mines as they were not well-equipped for working with coal dust and gasping for air. In 1814, Daniel Cook located an area rich in coal near present-day Campbellsville and began to sell coal to local farmers and inhabitants. In 1818, Elijah Hill took over management of Fenton's mines after its founder died suddenly; he became known as the "Father of Coal Mines". By 1830, Elijah had organized twenty-six families into companies that mined coal hereabouts; these families continued mining until 1865 when production stopped because of lack of resources (coal seams ran out). Today there are only three homes left standing from those original 26 families: one dating back to 1861 is on Old Mill Road just south of town limits; two others date back to 1870 by way of East Main Street between Church Avenue & Knox Falls Road (one home has been converted into an apartment complex); both survive primarily due their unique architecture: One features Byzantine Revival detailing typical for early 20th century Appalachianscapes while the other retains much intact traditional Craftsmanstyle details including large stone chimneys common among these homes during that time frame Church Avenue served as one major transportation corridor linking many different parts of this young community during its formative years: goods movement passed through several stores along this road before reaching marketplaces downtown; mercantile activity grew outmoded soon afterward as railroad service arrived; today most commercial traffic passing through town center bypasses it altogether Campbellsville's earliest commercial incarnation likely occurred at nearby Mount Zion Baptist Church which may have sold groceries or other items directly to customers rather than selling through brokers such as Mr./Mrs.. Beeson or Mrs./Mr.... Sheppard whom locals relied on for marketing information about potential retail locations closer into town
Campbellsville was founded in 1792 by General John Campbell and his family. The community was named after General Campbell's father, James Campbell. The town gradually developed into a small agricultural center with a population of around 100 people in the early 1800s. In 1851, the town was renamed for Major-General George Custer during the U.S. Civil War.
