The first guns in Kentucky were made by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and Samuel Colt. In 1792, Captain John Todd of the Kentucky militia decided to arm his troops with muskets. He ordered Nicholas-Jacques Conte to make him a few barrels of cannonballs. However, it was not until 1800 that Kentucky became a state and Thaddeus Stevens became its first governor. At this time, many families in Campbellsville owned firearms because the Government allowed them to be so. Ammunition for cannons was also expensive, so people in early Kentucky depended on trade to get it. By 1825, gun barrel production had increased significantly due to the importation of American barrels from England. The price of powder and bullets went up as well, which caused some farmers in Campbellsville to start producing their own firearms. The demand for guns lead some J&R Cartridge Company owners in 1827 to open a manufacturing plant on Prospect Street near the town square in order to produce more ammunition at an affordable price for local farmers and civilians alike. In 1850, new legislation passed by the United States Congress called for universal training for all able-bodied men between the ages of 20 and 26 years old about howto use arms properly. This law led Judge John Fenton who resided in Campbellsville at that time, to start manufacturing pistols using imported English cutlery instead of his own hands-on workmanship he had been doing since he was a teenager . Bridges were also designed specifically for shotguns during this time period but they never came into general use like rifles or handguns until afterwoohundred years later when machineguns began appearing on battlefields aroundthe world!

Campbellsville, Kentucky is a town in Campbell County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 9,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area.
Campbellsville is a town in Johnson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,531 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. The first European settler in Campbellsville was John Campbell, who arrived in 1785. Wm. Shelby also settled here about that time. In 1814, James Denny founded the town of Bardstown on the east side of the river near present-day State Route 61 and Old Georgetown Road. The first post office in Campbellsville was established in 1815. A sawmill and gristmill were built soon afterward and operated until they were destroyed by fire in 1865; both structures remain standing today as part of Bardstown's downtown district. In 1876, Jno. Blythe organized a Methodist church here and named it after his father-in-law, David Ketchum (1824–1902). The community grew rapidly due to its location near then new railroads and stores coming into town for trade with other parts of Kentucky and Tennessee. By 1880, there were over 100 people living here including 30 families farmsteading land or raising hogs or poultry on their own account; some 35 businesses had been opened up during that time frame alone! In 1924–25, Works Progress Administration (WPA) workers spent two weeks working on adding an extra bathroom to the local high school - one which still stands today! Today's Bardstown High School building began construction in 1925 as a response to this project - much like many other typical WPA projects throughout America at that time such as roads and bridges!
